FEL intermittent down malfunction. The float position works but the down is intermittent ?

Mine did the same thing a few times on my 7800. It always worked again in a few seconds so I didnt worry about it. I dont have any idea what was causing it.

DITTO it has been working again after a few minutes but something is not right.

Two possiblities come to my mind. If the loader had been removed and reinstalled recently it could be air in the system. You can purge air by running each funcion to its stops a couple of time. The other easy check is the quick connects. Disconnect and reconnect to make sure they are seated properly.

By down function do you meen building pressure in down position to raise the front of the tractor off the ground or loader will not not lower from a raised position?

If it takes a little time to build pressure you do probably have air in the system MarkV stated.

If it will not lower from a raised position something is either binding or you have random movement of the valve spool. If float always works neither of these make any sense.

Quick disconnects: Did you change any of them recently? I had one years ago that would randomly fail to allow oil to pass and drove me nuts trying to figure out what the problem was.

Watch the hoses on your loader and listen to hydraulic pump and motor on your tractor. Do either of the hoses get stiff get stiff when trying to lower? Does the pump or engine sound change? If no you are not building pressure for some reason.

If yes: Is it one hose or both getting stiff? If both the return line hose is blocked. Possibly defective QD. If one hose; there is either a mechanical binding in your FEL or the bucket is on the ground and you are trying to lift the front of the tractor.

Another test is to swap the hoses for the raise / lower and curl / dump functions to see if the problem follows the valve position or the function of the FEL.

good luck random failures are PITA to find

Had the same problem with my 7800 sometimes. Talked to my service guy and he told me when that happened to move my 3PH up or down a little. Apparently Kubota hydraulics are configured in such a way that the 3PH valve can stop in a position which slows fluid to the front. It's all one system.

Move the 3PH just a little...problem solved. (And it doesn't happen often....)
I wish I could explain more, but I can't. Ask your dealer.
Hope this helps.
