I started the 50 hour service on my 3400 today, it was going along pretty well until I noticed that the cover for the clutch plate adjustment is actually behind the loader bracket. Not only do I have to unmount the loader, but remove the bracket as well.

I'm thinking the design folks were having a bad day when they dreamed this up.

I will have to agree with you on this one. I have a BH on mine as well as the FEL. Dang near have to tear half the tractor apart to adjust the clutch.

Naw, remember these are the days of no home service/repair. Things are designed to have to go back to the dealer to be worked on. The more work they have to do to service it, the more money they make. LOL

Funny thing, I dropped in to see the dealer yesterday. Mentioned the loader bracket/clutch thing. He said they rarely if ever check that as part of the 50 hour service, although the manual calls for it. That's why I do whatever I can myself, I know it's been done at least.

Having said that, I didn't have to change the adjustment, it was ok to begin with. And, I suppose it gave me a little practice taking the loader off and re-installing...

I adjusted mine at around 25 hours. I was having problems, if the tractor sat and idled or after using the hoe, getting it in gear without grinding. Seems to be working good now. My dealer told me it just wasn't broke in yet. Ya right.

Different subject Chilly, since you have the same tractor as i do, is yours rear end noisy in 4 high? Mine is terrible.

Mine is actually pretty quiet in 4 high, but not compared to a car or truck differential.

Mine is the same as far as shifting into gear goes. If I go from ahead to astern right away, no problems, because the gear sets are moving at about the same speed. If it sits idling for a few minutes, or rolls ahead or back, it grinds. A trick I learned a long time ago is to tap the foot throttle to bring the rpm up a few hundred, and as it's settling back to idle put it in gear gently. Works 95 percent of the time. Why, I don't know, but it does.
