This might not be the way you want to go, but the price of steel is very high right now, and recycling centers are giving out plenty for it. I feel your pain because I have a diesel dump truck I have to drive an hour away to get someone to work on it. If you want to find someone, try talking to people in smaller auto-parts stores, they usually know someone, or get a manual and get wrenching!

If you know someone is is a good mechanic you can post specific questions in the New Holland or Antique Tractor sections. 8N's are very simple to work on and almost indestructible and have a lot of parts still being made.

TK, you are posting a thread like this in the wrong spot. This thread should be in Parts/Repairs in the General Forums or in the New Holland Owning/Operating forum (it includes Fords) or in the Vintage Tractors forum. I don't mean for this to be a rebuke, but rather information so you get the proper responses and help that you need. The New Member Introductions section is just a meet and greet area. It's not for tractor related problems.

In the Chesapeake, Va area, there are surely New Holland dealers who work on Ford tractors. If you need a mechanic, you can find one there. You won't find a good 8N mechanic at an automotive garage unless just by chance. You have to start by going to the New Holland dealer. If you think you can't afford a mechanic from the dealership, then you need to find a local newspaper and advertise for help. You also might try to advertise for help in the farm & garden section of your local craigslist.

If you post in the Vintage Tractor forum, I'd bet you'll find lots of help right here on TBN.
