HEY!!!!!

I'm so sick of TSC and thanks to this thread I see that there is a Family Farm and Home over in Richmond. Sure it's an hour away, but it's well worth it. 1399 vs 1699 ? I'll go on the road trip, thanks.

Thanks for your input. Would you buy your King Kutter again? I may consider the 48" Just want to cover my tracks..

Would I buy my King Kutter again? Without hesitation. I had it out this weekend and it performed flawlessly - as always. The 60" is slightly offset, and the 48" is either more offset or it's offsetable, so that might be more versatile for your needs. Depends how much area you have to till, how difficult your soil is, and how maneuverable you need to be.

BTW - TSC will often take 10% off if you ask the store manager and tell him you want to buy it now.

Just bought a 60" for 1250 of a small dealer in WV. I used it this weekend and I'll have to say it's a beast. The soil I was working has not been touched in years and had several trees taken out of it. I ran over it with a middle buster and then used the tiller. Besides the thousands of small roots I have to remove it turned out great. Now all I have to do is figure out how to put furrows in so I can plant. I will say that it bogged down my 2520 a few times and I had to crawl to keep the rpms up but overall I am very pleased.

I ran KK 60" on a L39 this weekend, worked good, never bogged down, but I see I have a gear oil leak around where the shaft comes out. Must be a seal, I wonder how aggrivating that will be to replace?

The seals are a bit of a pain to replace, but can be done in an afternoon. The first thing to check is the oil, the typical gear oil (90w or so) is not what goes in the box. Use the 145w or 000 grease.

Cocre.....this is the first I have heard of using the heavier weight grease in a KK tiller. Is this really the spec? and if so....I assume you are talking about the gear box on the left side and not the PTO gear box.....correct???

I'm sure I put 90 wt grease in mine. :( (I got this feeling I am going to learn something today)

You are onto something there I am working on that very thing it sure seems like a time saver since you are there anyway doesn't it!

I haven't built it yet because I haven't decided on what tool to use for the furrows and whether to buy some or build them, but using a rod or square tubing attached to the tillers rear gate that rotates up or down I could unhook it and let it down as needed and even use them at different widths just food for thought.....

Both gearboxes.

From the manual:

BEFORE PUTTING ROTARY TILLER INTO SERVICE
(IMPORTANT-INSTRUCTIONS PRIOR TO START UP)
SHIPPED WITHOUT OIL IN GEAR BOXES AND WITHOUT GREASE IN
GREASE FITTINGS. UNIT MUST BE SERVICED BEFORE USING.
Fill Gearbox using gear oil (type GL5-85W 140 or Triple Zero
Grease; which can be poured, and has "EP" i.e. "Extreme Pressure"
additives.)
For all Grease Fittings use TYPE/grade II tube grease.

Cocre.... Thanks for the info on the grease. I bought the 60" over the weekend but I haven't picked it up yet. Now I know what I need when I pick up the tiller this weekend. I'm hoping to try it out on Sunday depending on the weather.
