Had a few PM's come in asking me what I'm up to these days so I figured I'd post. I'm into the busy season here but I'm also replacing some of my welding gear. There's noting wrong with any of it it's just that I have another company owner that buys up all my old welding gear each time I replace it so this week he bought my miller Spectrum 701 plasma and my Millermatic 251.
I decided to replace the 701 which was a Hugh machine with the Miller Spectrum 875 plasma. it does the same job as the 701 but it's only the size of a lunch box and It can be used with my mobile welding unit.
The Millermatic 251 was replaced with the MM 252 and for the larger work I have the Millermatic 350P on the way so i should have all bases covered with this set up.
Today I put the power plug on the 252 and put the 50 lbs of .035 wire in the unit. I don't like the way Miller made the handles. They did them that way so you could hang the gun and grounds on. I noticed that miller sells a holder for this that bolts to the side of the machine but if you buy it you can't but the cover on the machine because the holder is in the way.
To solve that problem I made my own holder out of aluminum and using threaded inserts I bolted to the back of the machine and now I got a cable hanger and I can use my cover. The next thing I will be doing with it is to fabricate a holder to place the plasma on the side of the 251. That way everything will be near by if I need it.
The spool gun will be used with the 350P. That machine will be running 90-10 gas and argon and it will be loaded with .045 wire.
Here's a few pics of the day. Oh the first pics is of the new positioner. That sure came in handy this week.
Out with the old and in with the new.
Gotta love those threaded inserts.
After the holder was fabbed up it was etch primed and painted.
Now I can put the cover on
First weld with the 252
When I put this on I'll look like a weldor from the hood!
Well that's what I'm up to. I'll post more pics when the other gear shows up.
