Has anyone ever heard of a "ratchet clause" from their utility? I know RI has one but not sure of other states. This is a clause that allows the utility to never drop below half of whatever your original highest demand was. If you started with say a 300kwh demand and you reduced that to say 75kwh, you will never be able to pay less than the figure based on half of your original demand or in this case 150kwh.
As this thing moves along, it has come to my understanding that I should not even have a demand charge or meter as this account has never exceeded 2000 kwh in any month. In 3 years, I have uncovered over $25000 in billing errors. You have to watch this like a hawk and know the rules. Also, this utility is using people from temp agencies to read meters. 2 months ago, I was charged for 10000 kwh on an account that really used 1000. I guess from some of the posters remarks here and else where, they would have just paid on the 10000kwh or else consider themselves a commie, pinko socialist for complaining about a bill in our "free enterprise" system.

Well Arrow, it sounds like you are getting to the bottom of it all. Hopefully you can end up with lower bills when all is said and done.

People get what they pay for. Plane fares used to be very expensive. Now they are dirt cheap. I just heard of flights to NYC for under $75. I can't drive to NYC for $75.

You want a full dinner/lunch/breakfast then you have to pay for it. If you want the cheapest fare to get you from A to B with a bag of chips you pay less.

If you want more leg room pay for first class.

Actually I have a better option, I don't ever intend to get on an airplane again unless I visit Germany someday. I will gladly drive in comfort and see some of our great country.

The planes that I found (10 years ago) to be most sensible and friendly were the city-to-city shuttles. The seats were good, the service was no-frills but fine, they ran on a continuous schedule like a bus. The pricing was fixed I believe - no silly booking months in advance.

Should stay on topic, sorry.
Dave.

Dave.

Tis what we do. :D We flew in 1998 or 1999 and not again until 2008. I don't plan on flying again. We did the 2008 trip with the kids so they would have the experience and to see if the plane flight would save time on the vacation.

Answer no saved time and out $800-1000. The trip back was delayed by weather. If we had used the car we would have been home at least 2 hours earlier than the plane took. I used to fly quite a bit as a kid but this was the first flight delay I have ever had. We got delayed in Orlando for a couple of hours. And then we got back to RDU in a thunderstorm. The plane pulled ALMOST up the gate and stopped. The gate was RIGHT THERE. But they could not dock until the storm had passed so we sat for another 30 minutes. :confused2:

I think we should have been home by midnight at the latest and we got off the plan after midnight and still had the drive home.

Never again.

I was looking at Amtrac to get us out west but trying to figure out their schedule was danged near impossible.
