Has anybody done the backhoe pivot move over a trench with a BX24?

This a move in which the backhoe is used to raise the back wheels off the ground, and, using the FEL as a pivot point, move the raised back wheels over a trench. Once the lower BH pivot point is over the trench then the stabilizers are lowered to support the back wheels (one of which may or may not be touching the ground).

Sorry for the confusing description... I think real BH operators will know what I'm describing.

This procedure is commonly used to connect two trenches. A variation can also be used to pass over a trench.

I practiced this move over a board matching the BH bucket wide (on solid ground) but it seems that the geometry of the BX24 is just too short to get the BH pivot properly over the trench. I've seen it done with a real BH, so I was wondering if anybody actually did it with the toy version...

Ive done it with my 23 the biggest issue is trench width vs tractor with.
If soil is good no problem.
You should be able to come in at an angle with the loader skooting across the trench, when it gets centered.
I put both outriggers straight out to the side (helps with the pucker factor) then lift tractor back end with the hoe and slide it across the trench it might take a couple lifts to get it centered.
Front end should be straight and centered if not drive it back and forth a little to center it out.

And yes Ive dropped it a trench with bad soil and it got it self out but it took an hour or two.

If at all possible trench one way all but 20 ft then turn tractor around on whats left of the soil excavate the rest of the trench working back tward the 1st part till they meet then you only have to lift your self off the trench not on and off.

like this move over a board?

Hmm, that seems a bit perpendicular to what he meant, I believe.

When I did my first trench with the BX24, I had to do the exact some thing. I tried that move, but that was before I bumped up the pressure a little and found I could not do it and I ended up being off balance?? I was diggin a trench for a electric lines in clay around the pool to the basement wall. the owner wanted a line close the the pool around the pool and the way the pump was setup, I had to dig from pump first and go close to house as possible then turn around and dig from basement to the trench and connected it. when it was time to get out, I had difficulty due to the short wheelbase. I ended up sliding out by crawling with the both buckets. This whole thing took me longer then to dig the darn trench!!!

After I bumped up the pressure of hydraulics, I can't help but wonder if it would help or not since it was a whole new machine, and since I never had to be in that kind of sitution again ..... yet ;)

I think the trick to doing this move with these short machines is that it will require at least 3-4 swings of the hoe to complete.

Start by placing your hoe on the side of the trench you want to end up on. Raise and swing till your oposite outrigger is just at the edge. You should now have a rear tire hanging above the trench. Place an swing again until both rears are on solid ground. Place and swing once or twice more till both fronts are on the ground.

Because the distance from FEL to front wheels is also short it means you have to rotate almost a 45deg. to get both fronts on the ground. If you can't rotate that far because the FEL is falling into the trench, as long as you've got 3 wheels on the ground, you can skid out on the FEL. You can rotate the BH out the the side for couter weight.

Yup, and it works too.
