What happened to HP ratings on small engines

/ What happened to HP ratings on small engines #11
I've never believed the HP ratings listed I have 2 mowers, an old Cub with a 12 hp Kohler and a newer Huskvarna with a 25 HP Kohler command engine. The old 12 HP Cub runs rings around the newer one on my hills.

I bought a Cub Cadet tiller with a Honda engine a couple weeks ago. No HP rating, no torque rating, just the listed displacement.

My buddy who owns a lawnmower shop ordered some riders with 17 hp Briggs engines. They came in with 15 hp stickers on the engines. He phoned them about the wrong order coming in and they corrected it by sending him some 17 hp decals. :confused2:

I suspect because the HP numbers you have seen for year are bogus as all get out. I got a 20in mower which claims to be 6 HP ain't no way in heck that thing can make 6 HP well maybe at 12,000 rpm for the 30 seconds before it exploded.

SO instead of having a correct HP rating some executive said lets fix the problem and make it even more confussing :confused2: :)

So im in the farm store the other day waiting in like for like EVER because the people in front of me were morons trying to rain check some crap so i was left to wander around the tillers that were displayed next to the isle.

and thats when i notced they all had a CC number on them.... not a single HP number.

then i get a spam message from NortherTool about some new off brand for power equipment they are launching "powerhorse" or some such and click the link only to find all the listings for power equipment... again only list a CC number.

What the heck because for the past 40 years a HP rateing on the side of an engine was to easy to understand so now they just list a CC size!

ARG!!!!!!

who's stupid idea was this!

/rant

This has been going on for some time now, it really is a pain in the ____ !

Hey whatever it takes to sell to the stupid consumer, $$$$ talk. Oh wait aren't we all stupid consumers? I feel the problem is todays people, they all want new and pretty. Most don't even know where the engine is located let alone realize what HP means. Older consumers bought for need, not just because something was purty. In away we've all{society} let this happen, quantity is way more important then quality.

No offense, but what proof do you have for any of this blanket condemnation of today's consumer and blanket praise for older ones? The 'older and wiser' consumers wanted bigger, longer, wider cars with ever larger fins and designs that looked like fighter jets. Cars like this were bought out of 'need'? How many 'older and wiser' consumers knew how to clean an oil bath air filter or replace the points and condenser in a distributor? And it just had to be an 'executive' who decided to ship the different decals. Maybe all these changes have something to do with the EPA (click here)? Nah, couldn't be. Must be an evil corporation looking to deceive the uninformed, modern consumer. :confused2:

Proof?????? just look at todays consumer ;) Oh well, what the hey it is just my dumb____ opinion, no big deal and not worth a dime. I forgot corporations aren't out to make money, all of them will stand behind what they sell  Everything is flowers and golden cupcakes thanks to corporations. I want to say a big THANK YOU to my electric company, insurance companies, etc..because I know you've only had the consumers interest in your hearts!! BWAHhahahahahahehehehehehehee:laughing: :laughing:

Thanks Mike PA, for the trip to outer space it was a much needed break  But just as all good things, this trip also must come to an end. Now I have to land back on this planet and suck up reality. :drink:

I was about to say the same thing, my old wheel horse with 12 hp seems to be about as powerful as my new husqvarna with a 24 HP briggs.
