No, I'm not doing a stretch with Cool Hand Luke or did I go out and buy some chains for my tires. I joined Larry (guglioLS) & Rob (3RRL) and possibly others that I can't remember and made a place to put my chains and hooks on my tractor. The floor board and under the seat wasn't cutting it. They gave me the ammo box idea but unfortunately my ammo box isn't as cool as their ammo boxes. Mine is just an average .30 cal box but readily available at my Farm & Ranch store. The angle iron was free, box was around $5.00, bolts to mount it were $3.00 ea. at Fastenal and the paint I already had. I didn't do the greatest job of taking pics in steps but you get the idea. BTW, works great and sure beats what I was doing. Right now it's holding 1- 20' 5/16 chain w/hooks and 1- 18' 1/4" chain w/ hooks with a little room to spare.

The final product painted, labeled and mounted. Yes, that's my dirty tractor it's mounted to and yes, it's mounted to the FEL mount area. When the FEL fairy leaves me one I'll modify the chain box mount!:D:thumbsup:

Wow, very nice work. This is the coolest site ever. Where exactly did you mount it to the machine? A wider picture including more of the tractor would help. Did you mount to pre-drilled holes in the tranny case?

Sorry, I didn't take one of it from a distance or wider. I can but it will be tomorrow. Thanks for the compliments. Yes, it's bolted to the pre-drilled holes where the front end loader mounts.

Looks to be on the right side where a FEL would mount. You can see the brake peddels in pic 2 and 3.

Jay,
It looks great man!
I like them allot and I bet you like them even more. Very handy indeed. No more messing around trying to jury rig storing chains on your tractor.

Indeed I am, I'm sure Rob would like them too, especially the large letters reminding you which ammo box the chains are in.

A picture a little farther back would be great so we can admire them and your tractor all at the same time. Dirt on your tractor is a good sign that it's a working tractor and not a show tractor.

Nice job Jay, and since you left some space above the word 'CHAINS,' you could always spray on 'WHIPS &' too. :D

:laughing::laughing::laughing::thumbsup:

I would but I can't get it away from my wife! She uses it to keep me focused on those honeydo's!:D

Thanks guys for all of the comments. I'll try to remember to get a picture of the whole tractor showing the chain box.

And Hand Cuffs...

Now that I look at it closer I see where it is on the machine.

Very nice. I have been wanting to do that since Larry did it way back. Just need to source the ammo box. I would love to find a plastic one.

Me too. I'm not sure which one Larry used but the one he got for Rob was the kind you could access the top or bottom. I like that! You can dump them out the bottom on his instead of dragging them out of the top.

Hi all,

The ammo boxes I used are the same type I gave to Rob (3RRL) which he later installed on his two tractors. The ammo boxes originally held 30 rounds of 25MM linked M793 ammunition. They open from the top or bottom, the lids are hinged and super strong solid mil spec polymer. You could run over it with your tractor and be none the worse for wear.

Attached are a few pics for reference....

Larry

Hi Chris,

I purchased a bunch of them from a local surplus joint (Surplus City) in Albuquerque (I cleaned them out). I often see them on e-bay Shipping is a little steep I imagine because of size and weight. IMHO there worth it.

Early on someone wanted a pic from farther away so here it is.

Larry, thanks for posting. I'm going to see about getting one of those and tweeking my mount.

Ok! I checked EBAY for this item. I found them at Teds trucks N stuff. Wow! Larry wasn't kiddin' about the shipping. Anyway, here's the skinny on them. 25MM linked M793 ammo boxes. 13.5"L x 14"H x 6"W and weigh 13LBS! He has them listed at $20ea and $16.77 shipping if in the US! Sure wish I could find one locally.
