The way I see it, once someone is in my house, they are a mortal threat to me and my family. I can say that without checking to see if they are armed. I would make an honest effort to get out of the house, I don't care about possessions, but I promise you, if I cross paths with you on the way to get my family out, the lead will start flying in short order.

West Virginia castle doctrine agrees with this. California probably requires you to surrender your loaded weapon and valuables to an intruder, and you are probably subject to a civil suit if you do not.

In California, you can use "measured" force to defend yourself. That means beating the crap out of someone for stealing tools out of your garage is not allowed. However, you can use just enough force to control the situation. And..you still might get sued for using excessive force. It depends on how good the lawyer is. Me. I never could figure out just how much force to apply, so I leaned just a little bit on the generous side!

If you guys are serious about killing people with guns and ropes ,and not just flexing your internet muscles, you might think twice about posting your intentions on the internet. Could you be setting yourself up for murder one if something were to happen and you really needed to defend yourself ?

I think your logic is all wet. ( and mushy too! )

self defense is self defense. if someone puts you in a position where you have to defend yourself and they get killed.. that's going to be pretty cut and dry based on what the law of your state allows, and says about self defense.

If your opinion is that you would rather let yourself be harmed or killed vs defending yourself.. then no problem.. don't defend yourself.. and the perp won't get hurt..

if your opinion is that you would rather live than die or be hurt, and you live in an area where you are allowed to use deadly force to protect yourself.. well.. then that's that.. perp beware.

That's one reason among many why I live in Missouri now. I'm a native Californian and it saddens me that my home state has deteriorated so badly. It's a crap shoot defending yourself or your property there.
Here, in Missouri, we had a country version of neighborhood watch set up after a couple of homes were broken into. One neighbor, who was quite angry about losing his property, told the the deputy just what he would do to the next thief. The deputy only smiled and said "Take care of it before I get there." This was the first theft problem out here in a long time and they actually caught the guy. He was lucky the sheriff got to him first.

I don't want to sound calous ( spelling? ).. but I think they should round up al the violent criminals ( murder/rape/serious bodily harm ) and well.. toss em in a hole and smoke em.

then.. take all the theives and .. well.. ok.. lets give then a 1 or even 2 chances.. and failing that.. then toss them into the hole.

wonder how long it would take the crime rate to go down?

When the commies were still in power in the old Czechoslovakia the prisoners had to pay for their room and board, guarding etc.
They either well behaved so they were allowed to work or they ended up with substantial debt. If they left the jail with a debt the government left them with so called living minimum (just above poverty level) and garnished the rest of income until the debt was paid off. If they refused to work they put them back to jail that was tougher, more secure and way more expensive.
