I'm in the market for a 3000 Deisel, but looked at a 2000 Deisel tonight.

The number on the bell was A241091. Is that a 1972?

The only problem I saw, was the axle shaft housings had chipped casting where they bolt to the differential, like someone was using the bolts to draw them on, and chipped off the outer part of the bolt circle. That smells of a hack mechanic who did not know what he was doing...

The guy is asking $4500, which I think is too much for no FEL and no power steering.

Thoughts?

How much should I expect to pay for a 2000 these days?

It seemed in prime condition other than the chipped axle housings.

$4500 is about average.

You don't get much for nothing. I would be more concerned about the engine or trans. When they develop problems the rest is salvage at 4 cents a pound. I would be very careful about buying a 30 plus year old diesel and expecting many years of trouble free service. Just my point of view... others may have lucky charms in full display.

we really need more than the sn ( antwerp plant, belgium ). we need the model id and the date code if yuo want some real info about the machine.

While the 3 cyl's are decent machines.. the 2000's could be real plain with 4 speeds or 6 spd with twin sticks.. both with non live pto.

lack of power steering is another hit to value.

I bought a diesel 8spd 3000 last year for 3100$.. needed lots of cosmetic repair.. and a starter rebuild, genny rebuild, hoses and belts.. etc.. plus some work to make the mechanicals function better.

I'd try to get it for more like 4000, if everything otherwise runs out good.

This tractor had hi-lo range, so 8 speed.

It had a live PTO.

Basically, had everything I wanted, minus power steering, and the unsightly cracked off pieces of the axle housings.

I would make an offer of $3800, but I think the axle housing issue is keeping me from doing so. It tells me someone worked on the machine who didn't know what they were doing...

Also, I'm actually leaning more towards a 4000 size tractor.

pretty big size difference in a 2000/3000 and a 4000.

good luck.

i sold a 1 onwer 2000 manual steering ford tractor with 1200 orignal hours shed kept at auction in idable ok. in great shape it was a trade in at my shop for 2600 dollars and they normally bring between 2000 to 3500 for manual steering and 3000 to 4500 for one with factory power steering that is the realistic price range and a 4000 is not worth no more than a 3000 with factory powersteering

and just cause it has high and low and live pto does not mean its a 8sp. some six speeds had live pto and a 6sp is worth 500 dollars less than a 8sp and a 4sp is worth 1000 dollars less than a 8sp

and be and check out third gear cause that is the weak spot in them transmissions
