so now here's a question.. are we, non comercial drivers, suposed to go thru weight stations? I've driven i75 and 10 and 'passed' lots of stations while carrying an old tractor home and have never been challanged.. even with lots of dot's lining the roadway looking for 'escape's ??

If you are towing any trailer with a GVW of 10,000 or more ACCROSS STATE LINES, then you must stop.

If you are towing a trailer with a GVW of anything, but are staying entirely within a state and the combination is 26,001 or more, then you must stop.

Of course, that presumes that the activity is "for profit", the IRS has defined "for profit" as even a CHANCE you could win a trophy at a car show, race or other event. No monetary denomination need change hands, only a trophy, plack or ribbon :mad:

That last part is one reason I'm not going to the Gravely Mow-In in Conn. Read too many stories about their DOT's attitude about enforcement of their interpitation matching the IRS's. 11400 truck and 7k trailer = $$$$ in their eyes unless it is a travel trailer, camper trailer, or motorhome. :(

Got any source for that info? I frequently tow a 14,000 lb GVW trailer in two states and have never stopped at a weigh station, nor been chased down for it.

I tried to keep quiet but this is getting ridicules. I tow ever week of the year and never had a single issue. I have towed 16,000# across 15 or more states and not a single issue.

I am going to keep doing what I am doing and you keep doing what you are doing and it will work out in the end.

You still don't need a CDL till over 26K combined even with a trailer over 10K. I have a 14K trailer and a truck with GVWR of 9000 so combined I'm at 23K. I don't need a CDL with my current configuration. I am NOT hauling commercial or for business. Those are the federal regs.
