You don't get much for nothing. I would be more concerned about the engine or trans. When they develop problems the rest is salvage at 4 cents a pound. I would be very careful about buying a 30 plus year old diesel and expecting many years of trouble free service. Just my point of view... others may have lucky charms in full display.

While the 2000 was a nice compact tractor of its time the point about buying an old diesel tractor is point on or truck as far as that goes.

and just cause it has high and low and live pto does not mean its a 8sp. some six speeds had live pto and a 6sp is worth 500 dollars less than a 8sp and a 4sp is worth 1000 dollars less than a 8sp

and be and check out third gear cause that is the weak spot in them transmissions

You won't find any 6 speeds with live PTO.
Not all 8 speeds have live PTO, but most do.

i have a six speed in my shop right with a dubble clutch so that makes it a live pto and we just changed the clutch in it there is very few or them tho

I'd say a 4000 would be worth plenty more than a 3000.. quite a bit more capable tractor.. unless you are thinking about a 4000su.

hmm.. 6spd with dual clutch.. havn't heard of one of those OEM.. wonder if it's a cobble up? I've heard of people converting a 5spd non live pto to a 5 spd live pto with ALOT of work, parts and money..

yea i have seen that to but my father was a ford tractor dealer for 25 years and i buy and sell used ford tractors now and the one i am working on is factory but its has got hard to sell a 4000 down here cause its to big to fit on a 16ft bumber hitch trailer

It's not a 6x4 tranny is it?

I guess you mean a LD 16' trailer.. I've seen plenty of 4000's on 10K or 12k 16' trailers. Not ideal mind you.. but for sure doable.

one of the little light duty trailers everybody where we are wont tractors they can put on one of them and pull with a f150 and i wouldn't suggest putting a 4000 on a trailer behind somethin that small

all depends on the tow rating of the vehicle. You can get half ton trucks with 10 and 12k tow ratings. couple that with a tandem trailer with 10 or 12k rating, and you have a legal tow setup that should haul a 4000.

I wouldn't armwressle a gorilla .. but that don't mean anything either!

Fact is you can havw a safe and legal setup with todays 1/2 tons and car hauler type trailers.. better than you could a decade ago due mainly truck characteristics.
