How long of a trailer to get?

I dont see many 20' equipment trailers, just a few offered as options, much less 22' and up. Who are some manufacturers? I shouldn't need a 10+ ton trailer for this. Want to keep it pick up sized.

You can probably find a 20' 7000 lb trailer with 3500 lb axles. You may need to go to 5200 lb axles and 10,000 rating to get 20-22'. You can probably order a 20' trailer but may have to wait a couple of months to arrive. It does not cost much to add 2-4' to a trailer when it is made. 16-18' trailers are more commonly requested by buyers and is usually what are sitting on the lots.

You can double the empty weight by crossing over certain points too. It is just not an axle issue but from hitch to ramps issue.

Nice setup. Where did you get the tool box? I have been looking for a box that will not interfere with the jack.

I assume the person who made the trailer (its home made from best i can tell) welded up the tool box. like 1/8" diam plate steel. came on the trailer (welded to the front)

IMHO, almost anyone considering purchase of a trailer for hauling heavy equipment should seriously consider a gooseneck setup. I believe that when the situation turns risky, for whatever reason, and there can be many reasons...not all within the driver's control, that this setup is significantly safer than a bumper pull.

Consider a bumper pull improperly loaded with much weight on rear bumper, lifting weight from front/steering tires. Now, take this rig around a tightish curve at 40 mph and execute a panic stop because somebody pulls out in front of you. Guarantee you a similarly weighted gooseneck will come out far better than the bumper pull.

I grant that a gooseneck takes more skill/time to hookup and that it is embarrassing when you forget to lower the tailgate;)

Well said - I could not agree more...

A gooseneck is far and away more stable and controllable than a bumper-pull.

I put an M&W hitch on my Dmax and using the bed is not an issue.
