In Quebec the cities and towns use a wood resin that they spray liberally on dirt roads.
Considered to be eko friendly and OK near lakes and streams.
The application is done with an old oil tanker type truck that has a pipe that is a bit wider than the tanker truck with holes every 6 ins or so.
They simply rely on gravity to apply this gooy resin liquid.
Works well, gets soaked into dirt road bed and lasts the whole summer.

A couple of bags of water softener salt (the fine ground stuff) applied during a rain shower (not a soaker) with a lawn spreader can help immensly. Road commission uses the same deal. Best overall solution for me was to top it with crushed asphalt (locally available). It was $300 for 10 yards as I recall. The guy set his tailgate to about 2" opening and drove about 15 mph. It resulted in about 1.5 inches of covering. A perfect, quiet, dustfree, stays put material. And its dark colored. For some reason the color sets it off from other's driveways. It packs down real nice, too. Some folks use a plate compactor to really compact it.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. I think I will probably try either liquid or dry calcium chloride. The question now is where to buy it.........like so many other things if I could find it in bulk at near wholesale pricing its probably doable. If its retail maybe not since I have a fairly long lane. I'll post when I actually put something down.

CaCl is usually available at masonry supply yards or concrete batch plants. MikeD74T

I'd suggest taking the potential hazard of walking Fido on a salt treated surface into consideration. Not sure about the effects, just a gut feeling that it couldn't be good if done often.

The term to google is "road dust suppressants."

One article literally said they measured a ton of dustfall from a short section of gravel road in a few months. The more traffic and the faster the speeds, the worse the dust.

I' m sorry I can't be specific but our municiple govt. did a test by our yard and 2 or3 others last year I heard it was residue from feed mills and something else it was sprayed on with a water truck or something like is used on road repares then wet with water once more a few days later ,0 dust off it all summer even fast traffic not quite as good this year but better than nothing.
