Depending on where someone lives in relation to the nearest warehouse, adds to the cost. For me it adds $0.94/quart for a case of oil.
That wouldnt be to bad then..

sw03, I realize you are passionate about syn oils, amzoil, UOA and the rest. If there is an oil thread, you are sure to post your thoughts, and that is your right to do so.

But, here's the thing, and I hope you understand.

The vast majority of CUT owners here at TBN run something akin to 70-100 hours a year and change their oil/filter annually. Frankly, even if they used plain old, house brand dino, they are going to get their 10 years or 700-800 hours of totally trouble free use out of their diesel tractors. Maybe at 2000 hours, the difference might begin to show between having used house brand dino for $12 a gallon, or Group 3 synthetics for $20 a gallon or Group 4 synthetics for $30 a gallon. With annual oil/filter changes? I doubt even then.

That would take the 70 hour a year guy 27+ years to reach 2000 hours.!!!!

First, a lot of these guys here at TBN are retired or semi-retired, or if they are younger, they are gonna have likely gotten 3 other tractors by then.

Just speaking for myself, at 100 hours a year, and 27 years, i am not going to be looking down wondering if I should have used dino, Group 3 or Group 4. If I should, through some unforeseen reason, still be breathing in 27 years, no one is gonna let me operate a tractor. Just some common sense reality in the endless Dino vs Group 3 vs Group 4 debate.

Yup, I can understand this but you are going by price and that only. Do you care about TBN, pour points, ash content, ZDDP, VI, Noack, etc?

Sure, I can run my cars, tractors etc on corn oil too: but, the crappy wears results would show it is poor? am not comparing or debating this on this forum since I have been on here long for this logon?his is the WRONG forum for debtate oils I feel and I did this years ago? compared Amsoil to Rotella and Mobil at the time and for me the winner was not the later 2...

I thought maybe I should switch to T-6. Na, I like Amsoil, but T-6 is more for the 07 and newer emission diesels. This means it is a much different oil. It doesn't have all of some the additives in it so it won't clog pdf's. Oils meant for newer diesels are usually not good for extended drains because some additives are lacking.
Your dealer is incorrect....

The two main things that changed with the T6 Vs the other CJ4 version is 1) the viscosity index improver (it's more shear stable) and 2) the label on the jug.

all additive levels ARE the same,it's fully capable of extended drains hence the the improved more robust VII's and fully backward compatible to older diesels as is any CJ-4

This is from my Amsoil dealer discussing the new Amsoil 5w40 diesel oil.

Problem is most dealers have no clue...When anyone can become a "dealer" for $20 a year that is a huge issue.

It has nothing to do with adds, it has to do with EGR gasses going back into oils and kill the add pkg...Problem I see is diesel oil people are behind gas engine people by like 5 to 8 years....

Actually, more and more auto parts stores sell Amzoil. That's fine. But at over $30 a gallon, it isn't going to happen. I'm sure folks with differing multi-level marketing connections might do better. I cannot. Frankly, with regular Rotella at $11 a gallon and T-6 at 19.50, my price ceiling has been reached. T-6 at $24? I'd likely pass. Regular changes at 70 hours/annually. That to me is much more important. Shoot, even Kubota brand oil is just dino.

Well today I had to drive 25 minutes to well, an area that is low rider heaven top find Rotella T6 5w-40 for $20.98.....That is great it is cheap but not worth the dive (aka gas), my time etc. If you can use a nice grp2 for $11 then have at it..The lack of hours will kill the oil more then using a unit..

And use more places aroundme sell Amsoil, not Amzoil, but there prices are most times HIGHER then MSPR...You are better talking to people to buy it..I just got there 5w-40 for $23 per gallon...

Is it just me or are the responses to the OP getting more cryptic as this thread goes on... I am finding it imposable to understand some of the posts..?

SPYDERLK, you are right on the price of T6, it has been 19.50 for some time now at all the WalMarts around Kansas... KennyV

KennyV, well, if there is ever a oil related thread, the Amsoil (the oil formerly known as Amzoil) Army of loyalists always seem to post in. That's fine, but when they go on about molecular specifics, add pkgs, ZDDP, VI, Noack, and UOA, most people's eye's glaze and you know it's time to just go.

To the OP's question. yes. Now, I'm out of here. Have a great day.:D

I like and and use Amsoil. If you like it and use it then

It is not the only oil on the market. If you like to use a product found at walmart and change it at the recommended interval in your owners manual I don't see how using a synthetic would help engine longevity. Cold starts the nod goes to synthetics otherwise use what you like. I see your oil choice as personal preference use what you like and move on.

Definately nothing wrong with Rotella or Delvac for that matter.
