RachelV needs a tractor

well i would say if you want to mow lawns, it's gonna be hard to beat a good ZTR mower over a tractor because of efficiency, turning, and ruts in the yard. .

I agree with archem3. Alot of equipment will do multiple tasks but you can't beat the RIGHT equipment for the RIGHT job. I cut my mowing time from 5 1/2hours on my JD X500, to avg. of 1 hour and 50 minutes with a ZTR. So unless you just LOVE to spend time mowing...

Sell that Craftsman and use the $$$ to pick up and old beater to haul wood.:)

PS: I wish MY daughters had your ambition. Says alot about your parents.....

Yes a tractor and a Zero makes good sense. I am so happy I have you guys talking it out so I can use your experience to make my choice. and B Glynn thanks for the nice comment. I dont know what I will make of myself. I do want to have a sucsessfull husband. At some point that would be great. So I can mow our large many acre lot while he does a real job. hehe.

Rachel,

Since you are leaning toward the ZTR/tractor combo, here are a few other used models to consider besided the BXs/Bs: JD400 series GT (best GTs ever made), JD4100 series, Kioti CK20, Simplicity, Gravely professional GT series, small Ford diesels, TYM T233/T273, and various gray market japanese (yanmar, iseki, etc). Though be careful with the gray market units. Make sure you can get parts and have access to a mechanic that can do repairs/maintenance.

You might also consider professional walk behinds (with or without a guerny). That's what you see most of the yard maintenance crews using around here: Cut fast, work on slopes, easy to tow, fit tighter spaces. In other words they are effective in a more variety of mowing situations.

Saw an ad today the cub cadet was giving a free riding mower with the purchase of a tractor.

I agree that the right equipment for the right job is the way to go. It does seem, however, that zero term mowers, and almost all riding mowers are way overpriced. They have one job to do, so you almost need a cut for pay lawn or two to justify the cost.

As for the he he, on the tractor forum you will just have to come up with a stronger laugh. We need one with more hp.

Might I suggest a Power-Trac 425.. Has the personality of a ZTR in a SCUT body. A great all around small machine. I think there are a few owners in your hood you could go demo with.

Personally, I think the "he he" is cute. Be who you are and don't worry about trying to be something you're not.
