good morning fellas. like the title says i finally got my jd 5203 stuck in the mud while bushoging around my pond. where would be the best and safest place to pull from on the front end,as far as not harming the tractor while pulling it out?
thanks,

Front weight bracket is pretty stout...that's about the only place I'd pull from.
Might not be accessible if you have a loader installed though. If the loader is installed, you might have to raise it enough to get a chain rigged.
Do NOT hook a chain to the front axle!!

Good luck

Roy is right-on. You can bugger the axle or spindles pretty quickly!

Basically, look for a good purchase location on the frame. Ideally, a spot that affords an even, straight pull.

Best of luck. (Stuck tractors are heavy, heavy...)

Depending on how deep you are sunk down in the mud, you may want to disconnect the rotary cutter if it is also dragging. I had to do this once when the tractor was really stuck deeply in the mud. After snapping a chain, I decided to disconnect the cutter which made it much easier to pull the tractor out. Then used the FEL and long chain to lift/drag the cutter free. Good luck.

Thanks fellas for the replies. Its not that bad. I am only as deep as the back rims. So my axles aren't on the ground but the rotary cutter is. Why not attach a pull rope or chain to the front axle? It looks pretty beefy. Do y'all think that the front weight bracket will handle the pull w/o bending anything? I have the mount plus 2 weights up front. Also I have the jd brush guard. I just don't wanna bend anything. I was so pissed that I totally forgot to take pics LOL! Y'all please shoot me some advice as I'm going out first thing in the morning to try and get it out. I have a buddy that is bringing his 4wd kubota, not sure what size, to help out.
Thanks,
Whitearrow

Not the axle. The weight bar is where you should anchor to pull.
What are you pulling it with? Chain I hope. Just stuck down into the rims, shouldn't be a problem pulling it out.

But don't let someone hook on and jerk the chain. A steady pull with no "get a run at it" tractor jockey. :D That is when things bend and break. No rope, unless you have the high strength logging ropes that doesn't stretch and take a big load. Ropes that stretch build up a lot of energy, and if something breaks....the backlash can be disastrous.

Might talk through what you are contemplating, so someone with past experience can give you help or guidance if needed. But main thing, go slow and careful. Don't want two tractors stuck. :)

thanks been there you described axactly what i was gonna start out with. i do have a logging chain but i was gonna start out with a heavy duty 10,000 lb breaking strength 20' long recovery strap maybe wrapped around the front weight bracket. and yeah i'm not a fan of the get a run at it and snatch it view either,as i don't wann bend anything on my jd. it shouldn't be a problem as i'm kinda in a narrow ditch, why its probably wet,and the land on either side is dry so he sould be able to get plenty of traction with just a steady pull while i put my 5203 in low 3 with the posi engauged with the rpms run to around 2,000. how does that plan sound like to y'all?
again thanks for all the advice because i was sure gonna hook up to the front axle before i heard from y'all,

I always try to keep my tow straps away from sharp corners and edges - i.e. - the weight bracket. Cuts and frayed edges are the kiss of death for a tow strap!

Chain the front weight bracket with a short chain and place the tow strap between 2 chains - with the 2nd on the pulling tractor.

thanks fellas! i hooked to the front weight bracket with my tow strap and it pulled out nicely. my buddy pulled up in his brothers chevy dually diesel 4x4 and with me having it in low 3rd gear with the posi ingaged running approx. 2 grand on the tach it was no problem. once he nudged me a little it climbed out.
thanks,

MAN!! I am afraid to ask how THAT even happened??:)

I was going to retrieve a 2400# ballast weight I had to leave behind when I got my Deere stuck a few weeks before. I felt the rear sit down and stopped to back out of it using the front bucket to push back. When that didn't work I turned around in the seat and tried to pull with the rear at the same time and that didn't work. Then I started to dig the muck out behind the hoe to find hard ground to pull against. After digging for a few moments I heard the fan hitting something and turned around to find the front had settled to where you see it here. It took a Deere 700 lgp dozer to pull it out and the suction pulled both front tires off the rims.

Shame that was a Deere. A Case could have been out in about 2-3 minutes. We dug drainage ditches through stuff like that when we first bought our property 25 years ago. The Deere controls just aren't set-up to do it like the Case controls are. With the Case, you can lift and push with the rear bucket at the same time with one hand while lifting and rolling the front bucket with the other. I can take a Case 580/590/680 through material up to about 4 feet deep pretty easy.

If not for the 24" post oak on the one side I think I could have gotten it out, but it does make for a good story.

That Deere definately has the power for it. I just like the Case controls better for that kind of thing. Of course, 25+ years of running Case backhoes could have me a little jaded too.

The deere is ok and I never have liked case, but cat is by far my hoe of choice. I had a few tell me that they could have gotten it out, but I was just happy to still see the cab at this point.

For me, after so many years on the Case hoes, I'd kill someone with those joysticks. LOL Never could keep swing and curl straight. I can run the Case while sleeping.

The funny part though, is that I never seem to have a problem on a trackhoe. Must have something to do with the joysticks being out in front instead of on the armrests.:confused2:
