Difference between Synthetic Diesel and Normal Synthetic oil?

There's a reason for "standards" and "ratings" on these oil's out there,they dont do it just for kicks, CF dates back to about 1991-1994, a CF rating indicates the oil was designed to provide additional protection, not full protection, to include older and primary light-duty diesel engines.

A normally-aspirated diesel engine needs all the soot-controlling additives it can get because diesels are hard,brutal on oil and can be trashed in a hurry by soot loading up.

Currant API HDEO oil's of today will do a much better job of suspending and dispersing the soot particles(thus your filter will capture them) which will minimize abrasive wear(what soot is). Significantly more TBN reserve so it will do a better job of neutralizing acids and preventing corrosive wear(what TBN is). Will also keep the engine much cleaner.

will the oil ruin your engine? probably not but it sure is not the idea oil to keep using for reasons i posted above, CF is a weak spec compared to currant.

All of this came from the fact I put in oil and within an hour or two it was black (or much darker). This is my first diesel. I read here that it is what Diesels do, and not to worry, just make sure you use high quality oil (I am using synth as my tractor is oil cooled).

do not run a PCMO(passenger car motor oil) in a diesel,not built for it, BUT,,you can run a HDEO(heavy duty engine oil)in a gasser with great results.

They are meaningless. A diesel Jetta, a passenger car, and diesel truck couldn't use the same API oil? Geez. I Googled them, as I thought, meaningless marketing terms.

Anyone can cut and paste. Where did this 'information' come from? What owners manual say use PCMO or HDEO? :laughing: Just when I think oil threads can't get more pedantic.

Re-read post #20 and please use the links,as i said it's common knowledge (acronyms) for any one familiar with lubes.

that's all the help i can give you and all the band width i'm going to waist ,it's outa my hands if you still don't understand.
