Traded off the 790

I also have always had the feeling that right side down is more tippy. I know it is just mental, but some places I will only go through with left side down. Maybe something to do with being right handed.

I always felt the same way whether it be turning on a motorcycle or on a hill side on anything.

I had the dealer move my tires out prior to delivery; glad I did.

Very nice tractor Roy.

I would guess both of you are right handed?

yea, i steer w/ the left hand and work everything else w/ the right. i also hang on to the fender handle w/ the right...which is why i think it feels less tippy for me that way.

Same here so that could be some of it.

My father-in-law is left handed and we always had the best of both, I'm right handed. Why it is I have not a clue, but seems to be. Always thought it was because of my small brain.

I tell folks that my brain is like Australia, a large brown area surrounded by a fringe of activity...... For some reason I feel more stable with the left side of the tractor (garden tractor anyway) on the upper side of a slope. I guess that is because my discharge chute is on that side.

Well, they delivered the 4400 on this rainy day.
Couple observations:
a) Those rear working lights (2 of them) are sure brighter then what I had on the 790. So are the headlights.
b) The lights will come on when the engine is off (790's did not). Not sure I like this...I can see a jump start in my future (soon, probably). There was a post on adding a warning buzzer or light to the lamp circuit (on a New Holland) to prevent leaving the lights on...have to look into this.
c) The remote linkages (for the ranges, gears and reverser levers) are a lot looser then the direct linkage of the 790's range and gearshift. I noticed this when I tested it out a week ago...bit more noticable when I could run it around my property more. Be a bit of a learning curve on this and I'll check the tech manual (thanks to an anonymous TBNer for that!!!!) if there's a way to tighten them up a bit.
d) That's one big freakin' mower!!!! Going to have to rearrange my garage to acommodate this. It isn't just the 7' width, it's that extra foot of length.
e) The 430 loader lifts a good foot higher then the 419 (on the 790).

All in all, I'm very pleased. I just hope I have the super reliability of the 790.

I assume that tractor came with a nice open platform.??

Something for the remaining 770/790 operators to aspire to.

Yeah, it's an open station. Cabs are nice, but would interfere with how I use a tractor.

770's and 790's are great machines...I hope this 4400 gives me as good service as my 670 (770's little brother) and 790 did.

Roy, you have a syncreverser, correct?

on my 4300, for the range selection, the decals say (from front to rear) A N B C....now that i think of it, it might be A B N C...whichever way it is labeled, it seems like B and N are reversed from the label. i have a hard time finding B range. the detents aren't very pronounced....do you find it the same w/ B on the 4400?

So how does your wife like her newer, smaller tractor? You haven't had to use that had for self defense yet have you? Thankfully, you had a little time to plan various escape routes, etc.
