Also what are these wedges everyone is talking about?? why would you remove them and reinstall them? Is it depending on the hay your baling?

Since you have a 7' mower, and a rake probably optimized for 9' cutting, you will need to figure out the best way to rake the hay windrows and feed the baler. With a 7' cut, you may be best off by raking 2 cutting windrows into 1 for baling. This give you some 'working space', too. Trying to rake 1 7' cut into 1 windrow for baling is a bit tight.

Keeping the baler running at 1 stroke per second will get you on track. I always recommend emptying the bale chamber completely at the start of each season to clean out the crap that gets lodged in there. Look for broken or tired springs in the mechanism, buy some extra baler shear pins, rake teeth, mower knives, guards and bolts, and check the belt(s) on the mower. By all means, set the tire pressures to recommended values.

You might try running the baler in a stationary mode before you actually need it just to get the sounds and fury of it all. Park the tractor at operating rpm and pitch old hay into the feeder and watch it all happen.

Having the owners manuals memorized is a big advantage. And a set of tools and extra parts on each machine is a big deal. An old ammo can strapped to the frame works for me. So, on the mower you keep teeth, guards and the wrenches to change them, on the rake you keep tines and wrenches for it, same for the baler. That's where you keep the manuals, too.

Start looking for helpers to get the hay into storage.... They'll want $50 and hour, an iPhone and a wifi available to be included in the employment package.

Ok that 1 stroke a second helps a ton to know, Now as far as running the twine it looks like the wrap it like 2-3 time around the needle or finger i guess ??? Does this seem right? It first goes through two porcelin eyelets before this ? Now I am going to try to bale a total of about 30-35 acres this year, does anyone know approx how many bales this will yeild? I want to make sure I have enough storage. Thanks Again

Yes, come out of your twine box and thru the spring loaded squeezer, then thru the porcelin guides and then to the fingers and then back down to the outside curved tubing frame and tie off the twine. How much hay depends on so many variable, I would be afraid to guess. Ken Sweet

The squeezer is mounted to the end of your twine box where the twine come out. Yes, you just tie the first twine until the baler takes over on the next cycle. WD 40 is good until the knotters and bills get polished off by the twine. Ken Sweet

Lots of good advice here...

If you don't want to rethread twine when it goes from one roll to the next, learn to tie good square knots and cut off the excess. Most balers will hold 4 spools, look at the manuals/diagrams on how to thread them in 2x2 in series. If I'm remembering right, thread center to baler and outside to next roll/spool.

If you run at the right RPMs / strokes you'll find out which gear to use and while 2nd may seem slow a lot of times, if you've raked right, 2nd may be as fast as the baler will bale without choking ... baled a lot in 1st.

And unless you've got a high tolerance for pain, hat & sunscreen (or long sleeves) is recommended. Even in 3rd, you're going to get a lot of sun time in.

I have neighbors that set the bale length and density to be 70-80 lbs/bale. I set mine at 40-50 lbs and that is a lot easier on my back while loading and unloading as well as a fair size to sell to potential customers. Ken Sweet
