Oil Spewing out of Crankcase Breather

Don't waste their time Ronald. You're the only one calling this an "adjustable" OPSU. The procedure I described is just what I said - a calibration; a calibration between the OPSU and the gauge. This procedure positions the OPSU diaphragm in an electrically neutral position relative to the oil in the sump.

So what do you call a OPSU that has a jamb nut on it that is designed to calibrate a gauge reading??

Thanks Greg for the instructions on the calibration, FYI I discovered a local Jinma tractor owner here who has the same year and model Jinma who helped me determine where the correct notches on the dipstick are, it was overfilled with oil, hopefully there will not be any ill effects as a result of the overfilling. I have not calibrated the pressure gauge yet due to my work hours, but that is next on my list of things to do. Thanks again to everyone who helped out with advice and information.

All of the OPSU that we have old style and new new do not have a jam nut they both have a tapered pipe thread ? The hex part of the sending unit is used to tighten it up

I am surprised at both of you not knowing how to adjust or should I say calibrate a OPUS gage. Although Graig's procedure is a little flawed in the fact you have to have the oil at a completely level state other wise the calibration will be off as much as 10 percent.. the best way is to put the tractor do-north hood up and precisely at a 11:00 pm with a full moon, and the sending unit marked on top, you need to rotate that mark until it points exactly in the middle of the moon. only then your ushered that the gage is calibrated.

The next time you two read up on how to calibrate a insturment..ok..

I'm still confused about this calibrating thing. I've calibrated diaphragm gauges in the past, but those were gauges themselves, not diaphragm sending units with remote gauges. The diaphragm acts directly on the gauge needle and you just zero it with a small screw. Piece of cake.

I can comprehend the way a diaphragm sending unit works, but I don't understand how moving the whole sending unit could change the pressure on the diaphragm. When the oil pump is not turning, there's no pressure and so the diaphragm should be completely "relaxed." I can't see how that would change at all by rotating it, even if you hold your mouth just right and chant incantations in ancient Coptic pentameter. Still not going to be any pressure acting on the diaphragm. Even if you screw the **** thing all the way in until the threads jam, any pressure exerted no the oil is just going to displace it to the sump against no pressure.

Now, if the diaphragm has some internal adjustment to affect the pre-load on the resistance element, I could see how that would allow one to zero the unit. I just can't see how moving the sender would do that - but I'm only familiar with the kind you just screw in and hope it seals so it doesn't leak. I never knew there was any other kind. I'd really like to see a cutaway illustration of one to see how it works.
