Hey guys. I noticed when I was backing up a steep bank the other day that when I lost traction the front wheels were the only ones spinning. Actually only one was spining. Is that normal for the Kubota 4WD tractors ? (I only had it in 2WD at the time).

I'd check that out, as the 4wd lever disconnects the front drive shaft from the transmission leaving the rear wheels to drive the tractor. It is normal for only 1 front tire to spin as the smaller Kubotas don't have any type of locker/limited slip for the front axle.

I agree that for some reason the tractor thought/was in 4wd. In 2wd if the rears were not moving the front should not be.

Yeah...... try that again. If it was in 2wd only a rear tire would be spinning with the diff lock not engaged (obviously both rears would spin if the diff lock was engaged).

It WOULD be normal for one front wheel to spin with the tractor in 4wd..... since the front differential is 'open'.

Hmm, this is strange, but just telling you what I saw. And I immediately looked down to see if it was in 4WD, which it was not. I'll have to try that again, and see what I find, I wonder if it is somehow stuck in 4WD and I just haven't noticed it ? Since I got it a month ago, I don't think I've even had it in 4WD.

Yeah, I would sure check the linkage; sounds like the lever is not disengaging 4WD.

Ok, so I am a complete idiot. IT WAS in 4WD. I apparently am among those who understand words better than pictures. So, for the 10 hours or so I have had the tractor, I think I have had it in 4WD the entire time. :confused2:

Guess I know it works !

Thanks to all for your comments !

Don't let it bother you, we all go through a learning curve. The next thing I predict is you will find yourself into an hour with the emergency brake on and wondering why the tractor feels sluggish. A bunch of us have done that one.

4X4 is not what you think..Been there with my BX22/BX24..4X4 means you get (1) wheel in back and (1) in the front.
