Driving new tractor home from dealer

Not in most instances.

It has been a while since I toured the Deere factory but I recall a big room where they had engines in stands with coolant, fuel and exhaust hoses hooked to them while they where on the dyno for breaking in.

Were they breaking the engines in or maybe doing a spot quality control on a couple units pulled from a shipment? I guess the # of units running on the dyno at a given time would answer that question? Ken Sweet

I thought it was the final stop for all engines coming off the assembly line, but like I say it has been a while.

Nobody is going to spend the $$ to hook up every engine to fuel, coolant, clean air, exhaust, etc when they could simply hook the PTO up to a dyno after the completed tractor comes off the line. Quicker, easier, tests more components. But my money says they don't do that either.

Not all their engines go into tractors on site. some are sold as just engines.

If engine breakin isn't done at the factory it should certainly be done by the dealer predelivery.

I thought someone with some engine knowledge here at TBN said that the days of breaking in an engine like we once did with non detergent oil etc are long gone. I have owned about 5 tractors and cannot say I "broke" them in with any analness, I just drove them, did things with them and put on many, many hours and never noticed any issues. I would not advise lugging a brand new engine, but then, I don't advise doing that to a diesel of any age, even those that are 19 years old in human age.

What was that comment about dead bodies? Are you planning to hit a few cemeteries on the way home?

Absolutely true.

Sure, and then we would be getting the ad nauseum posts about someone getting their brand new tractor with 15 hours on it, "should I take it back" type craziness. Break it in as the manual says. If it says to change the engine oil in 50 hours, do it, if it says 50 minutes, do it.

That's true too.

Just responding to crbr's post.

Doesn't matter for dead people. Regardless of the roads. Just sayin'.

I get the feeling you a "half empty" kind of guy.

You have had two posts here (if I counted right), and both are pretty negative. Do you not see tractors on the road where you live? It is a way of life where I live.

Your zero percent financing blurb in your signature is reall upbeat too.

I'm thinking your not a real happy person...
