1*is it okay to run ultra low sulphur highway diesel in my 2006 4500 Mahindra ? I have 5 gallons that I want to add to the tank, I think from what I read that will be okay. (the manual just says clean diesel)
2*I don't know if from now on I should go out of my way to purchase an additive or off road diesel.
Thanks
1*It has 95 to 99% replaced the higher sulpher stuff be it on or off road .
2*It won't do you any good since 95 to 99% of all disel is
ULSD an the gap is closing fast.
I"d just get the untaxed stuf and add Power service .
3*I was told when I bought my 3215 to NEVER use on road diesel
3*Sounds exactly like somebody that don't know what they are talking about.
4*By someone fully uninformed.
5*In most of the country, ULSD is the ONLY choice for diesel fuel, on- or off-road.
6*If you can still buy LSD, you won't be able to for long.
4*

5*Just what I've been preaching for the last 2 or 3 years.
6*Sounds like it's becomimg truer and truer every day .
7*The main thing is get your fuel from a dealer that has a large turn over of fuel like a truck stop which will have less chance of contamination. The only thing I would suggest is to add a fuel additive to ever tank both summer and winter like Diesel Fuel Supplement +Cetane Boost from Power Service.
7*Truck stops charge road tax.
Buy from a fuel distributor and save up to 50 cents per gallon.
They can have a larger turn over volume than a truck stop.
8*There seems to be plenty of off road in this area.
9*If it runs out, do I need to use additive to protect engine?
8*That's because on road and off road is the exact same product.
We're not talking about 2 different products with different characteristics here .
It's all simply a tax issue.
9* Use PS with all diesel .
10*Just buy the same diesel that people buy for their pickup trucks .
11* My understanding if your not a farmer then you can't buy the off road fuel.
12*Myself I go to my local truck stop and buy my fuel for my tractor and never had an issue.
10*And pay 50 cents a gallon road tax on it for nothing .
If you don't use the fuel on the raod you don't owe the tax.
It's simply a tax issue nothing more.
11*Every body has the right to buy off road.
You didn't understand.
12*If your truck stop don't have an off road pump i wouldn't buy there.
13*I'm not a farmer and I buy off road Diesel all the time. The difference is that it's not taxed for Highway use and it has dye in it. It is the same Diesel it just has dye in it, so if you get pulled over by the DOT in a tractor trailer rig they can tell if you are avoiding taxes!
13* This sums it all up real well .
It's all about taxes-nothing else.
14*We have a local Co-op that is self serve. All that is necessary for Off Road diesel is a credit/debit card.
I simply take my fuel containers and pump to my hearts content.
14* this is the way to go.
Do they offer home delivery ?
15*Ditto what nhammond54 said.
16*The only diff is color and cost.
15*Double Ditto.
16*True; but myths lengonds and old wives tales die hard.
17*When I first got my tractor I checked about the off road fuel at our local CO-OP and the first thing they ask was if it was for farm use so I just assumed that it was restricted and never rechecked.
18* Here in Iowa property over ten acres can be classified as a farm and not have to pay certain taxes and
19* I've only got seven.
17*U assumed wrong.
18* This is for sales taxes.
It has nothing to do with permission to buy off road fuel.
19*Don't matter every one has the right to buy off ROAD FUEL.
20*You don't need a "farm" to run offroad.
20*U R quite right.
21*Just so long as it doesn't cost you more in gas than what you'll save in the different between dye and highway diesel.
22*Here in Iowa the savings is only 22 cent a gallon per my CO-OP so unless you buy a lot of fuel in bulk 5 or 10 gallons may not equal a big savings it just depends on where your CO-OP is located.
21*Then get it delivered if U can.
How much does Iowa and ferderal tax add to the cost of a gallon of fuel in your area ?
22* If you don't save the entire Fed and and State highway tax the seller is splitting the tax saveings with you which is a 100 % profit for them .
23*They ask if it is for farm use in this area to determine whether or not to charge sales tax.
23*You are so correct. The question has nothing to do with qualifing you to purchase off road.
Every one qualifies , even a city slicker on an uptown city lot.
