Trouble with a gould submersible pump (sump)

Is the bottom section of the pump plastic? I have to correct a statement I made earlier. All the ones I installed are working except the one I let the supply house talk me into that was plastic. The impeller was plastic and fell off after a short time.

Yes the bottom is plastic. I think the impeller is also. I am stuck between buying a new one at 330.00 or not getting one that is overkill for 150... I have a lot invested in my basement, so....... I have not done anything and it is still running..... but...:confused2:

You can get a 1/2 Hp or 3/4Hp with SST and Cast base at the big box stores with a lifetime warranty for about $180-200. thats what I did 10 yrs ago and have replaced it 1x already due to a bad float switch @ N/C. Then rebuild your existing one for a spare/backup unit.

With a lot of $ in the basement I wouldnt risk it. You could also put two pumps in with one float set higher in case the existing pump fails you have a built in backup. You need check valves in both then.

I am seeing more water powered backup systems lately. The fact that they don't need power has made them a choice that a lot of customers have liked. We have had several large storms that left us without power for many days.

Zoeller pumps are pretty good for the money . We get between 5 and 10 yrs out of them , and usually the only thing wrong when it quits working is the water finally rusts up the micro switch under the top cover .

If you get the Zoeller that has a float switch instead of the arm switch, you get a much longer life. The float can be changed and still use the original pump. You probably will need to go to a plumbing supply not a box store to get one.

With all the crazy stuff going on, i ordered another gould. I will repair the first pump and use as a backup. I also plan to have a water backup put in, but I need the time to get a good guy to do it!
