Kevin the problem is that welding machine is out in the other shop and if it's out of sight it's out of mind. I think it's go something to do with middle age :eek: :laughing:

My Lincoln is 25 years old and runs well so if the overwhelming opinion is to save money and run the hardfacing on 180A AC then that will be the choice.

Thanks ahead of time.

Looked up the "3/16" Stoody 31 hardface rod";
Current = DC+ or AC
Amps = 170 - 240
Position = Flat

New toys are fun, on the other hand your Lincoln will get the job done using AC.

Thanks for the research. An arc was just barely able to be run at 120A DC+ with the Stoody 31. That was the max DC for the Lincoln. A pro welder would probably have no problem but 120A is well below specs.

I've been welding with DC for so many years now that using AC seems like tossing water in a red hot pan of oil with all of the splatter. Can't remember last time AC was used. Well, yes I do - when the Stoody 31 couldn't be run on DC+. Tried DC- with no luck as well.

Anyway, further complicating the matter is that I have 10 pounds of 3/16" AC/DC Stoody Borod (read mega-expensive) that requires 120 - 150A. That rod supply cost almost more than a new welder. When it is used there is not much room for experimentation or a poor weld.

To 4short: I've admired your work shown on this site and other sites where you are a member. For you to recommend Everlast is a real compliment to their welders. I sent Mark a PM to see what's up.

rhett is right though - the old Lincoln can limp through the jobs but new toys are nice to have and I have far more money than sense.

Very, very nice sir. Now if my memory serves me correct did I see somewhere that you restored that mobile welding outfit??? sorry if i'm wrong on this. it might be just another brain fart I'm having. Either way I like it all. Very nice work on the trailer as well. Tip my lid to you. :thumbsup:

Thank you very much for your kind words on my work and posts. As most know I like the blue machines. I don't hide that but I'm not senile enough yet to say there the only machine to buy. I buy blue because I get great dealer support and they like to deal with me as well.

I don't know Mark at all and I've never used his product but given the opportunity I would and I'm sure it's a great product. Mark has proven to me by his posts that he's very knowledgeable about the product and welding in general plus he's here all the time giving some darn good advise and considering the warranty and the no risk purchase of buying a welding or cutting unit from him I'd give it a good look if he was in my area. Let us know what you decide on and do your homework and you'll get a good machine I'm sure. Thanks again for your kind words. Paul
