My Lincoln is 25 years old and runs well so if the overwhelming opinion is to save money and run the hardfacing on 180A AC then that will be the choice.

Kevin the problem is that welding machine is out in the other shop and if it's out of sight it's out of mind. I think it's go something to do with middle age:laughing:
Looked up the "3/16" Stoody 31 hardface rod";
Current = DC+ or AC
Amps = 170 - 240
Position = Flat
New toys are fun, on the other hand your Lincoln will get the job done using AC.
