Hey obed...With everyone having so much fun Spending your money I wonder what will happen when your house is completed...LOL...Everyone will have to go back to spending their own money.
Don't worry. After we get in the house there will still be plenty of things for everybody to spend my money on.

For example, I will need to do something with these mountains of dirt. Then there's the parking pad, finish the driveway, create a driveway to the basement garage, get rid of some trees that are too close to the house, perform grading around the house, landscaping, prep the garden area, run a water line to the garden, add more Cat6 cabling, add crown molding. And that's just the beginning.

...add crown molding...

Behind the crown molding is a great place for those forgotten wire runs.

Seems like 90% of those "projects" require seat time....should be enjoyable as compared to the rigors of building the house!
BTW, the bricking looks fantastic. It's been quite a transformation!

I just read all the posts about securtiy system stuff. If I had a hand grenade, I would have pulled the pin and held it to my chest.:confused2:
I didn't know all that stuff existed, but it doesn't suprise me. Isn't it just cheaper to carry a gun?

Better yet, get a big dog and train him to use a gun....

Yes, I think the best security system includes a dog. We are seriously considering getting a dog. Ideally, the dog would bark at people, not squirrels. However, I don't know where you find that kind of dog. We like to sleep with the windows open so a dog that barks at night at everything would be an issue.

We had a black lab once that only barked at other dogs. It wouldn't bark at people. For security, that dog was useless. She would follow the electric meter reader around while panting and wagging her tail. However, she would sit on the front porch and bark at other dogs in the middle of the night and keep us awake with her big deep voice.

The wife and baby and I took a long weekend out of town and met friends in the mountains in North Carolina. It was nice to get away and leave all the house stuff behind. No internet. No cell phones. I had told the brick mason that we would be out of town Friday through Monday. When my wife found out I had let the brick mason know about our trip, I got chastised because of security issues. We have no reasons to suspect the brick guy's honesty but you just never know. I did call up the brick mason and ask him not to let any of his workers know that we would be out of town.

Tomorrow evening we will appear before the zoning board and try to get a variance to allow us to continue to live in the camper while we build the house.

The right breed helps, but its more about training I think. Others have their own opinion, but I would keep the dog inside at night. They can see out windows in the dark and hear through walls. :) You have much better training possibilities with the dog inside. If the dog barks while outside, what normally happens? The dog gets called inside or yelled at. Neither are effective training techniques IMO.

Good luck with the board.

As for the security here is what I did. First of know your neighbors. Mine are great and we watch each others stuff. If someone was breaking into one of there homes or barns I would shot them, plain and simple. No warning shot. Not saying I would shot to kill but they would get shot. I am tired of thief's. They get a slap on the wrist. I keep about 10 guns in the house. 3 are loaded and ready to go. 9mm in the truck in the garage, 380 in the bed room, and .22 semi auto critter gun with a scope in the laundry room. The big stuff is in the gun safe.

Second thing I did was put up motion lights.

Third thing was buy some signs that say I have a security system like Brinks Signs. Get them on EBAY.

Forth thing was get a good do. Mine is a Sheltie Collie. She is big enough to do some damage but small enough to go in the truck, stay in the house, even go on a boat ride. She loves kids, herds them up, is a good friend, and barks at strangers. She is pretty good with other animals like the barn cats. She leaves the critter chasing up to them.
