Has Mahindra Passed Deere in sales?

I have seen this ad the last couple weeks on the TV cable channels, that shows a Mahindra tractor with a Brush Hog Mowing in a field while a neighbor farmers sets across the fence on his vintage John Deere (4020 maybe). When the ad is over the Mahindra owner has carved out #1 in the middle of the field and the neighbor sees it, he slaps his hat on the fender of the old JD he is setting on. My question is, Mahindra, #1 in what? Ken Sweet

They have that quote about being number one in sales on their website. We all know sales numbers can be calculated many different ways. I have not been able to find any qualifying information regarding this statement. I'll keep looking.

Marketing...gotta love it. For all we know they are counting the sales of one particular county in one particular state. OR a single size of tractor. If CNH were advertising that I'd look further into it, but Mahindra? Sorry..no bleepin way.

Overall, Globally, in ALL tractor sales, JD is #1. Period.

From a simple point of view...counting all the brands of all sizes I see in my travels, there is absouletly no way. But I fall into what I said just above...i'm only looking at a very small sample size which geography has alot to do with.

Possibly #1 in dumbest name for a tractor. I don't know much about them, but I know I could never own a tractor whose name was Mahindra. ha ha

Last I heard, the GA Deere plant was running full tilt producing tractors.

Not trying to get something started, as we own 2 newer John Deere tractors on our farm and love them. I hate to see misleading advertising, If, That is what it is?? All I am asking is, Mahindra, #1 in what? Ken Sweet

How can You pass judgement on something You dont know much about. Have You used or do You Own a Mahindra? I am well pleased with Mine.

The ad claims they are #1 worldwide...they obviously must have the facts to back it up or they would be liable to false advertising claims...

In India, the largest tractor market in the world, Mahindra has been the number one selling brand since 1983.

Of course that's better than calling yourself #2.

(My dad has had a Mahindra 4110 for 10 years, & we both like it just fine. It's no Kubota L3940, but it's a fine machine. He's had no problems at all)

I wouldn't be suprised if Deere is number one here in the US, but I would be shocked if they are number 1 worldwide. The markets in China and India dwarf the US market by a factor of 8. (China 1.3B, India ~1.2B) Take into account that those societies are still heavily agrarian, however poor, their use of tractor is still likely far more than the US, or in that matter all of NA, SA and Europe.
