B7100 front PTO shaft impossible to find-HELP

   / B7100 front PTO shaft impossible to find-HELP #21
Hello everyone, I am new to this forum.

I have several tractors, including an old Dynahoe 200, a case 1848, a Leland 270

But the fit I am having of late is something being addressed on this thread.

My lt225dt Kubota has a 22 spline shaft on the front of the engine, and the loader hydraulic pump eats the couplers.

I have replaced the coupler 3 times over the last decade.

I assume the the problem addressed here is the smae one I am experiencing.

Last year I bought a coupler, and welded it to the shaft, and it worked great but it stripped out last week, I think it was cast iron, or a very mild cast steel.

For that reason I think I need a good quality steel hub like would be found on a clutch plate or an axle hub. SO I am wondering if anyone confirmed the Mazda clutch hub to fit this application?

Good morning gentlemen,

I was at a huge city auction a couple of years ago. I bought a 'lot' at the auction and it included what some of you guys may be looking for. It is a Kubota B9310 drive shaft. It 'appears' to be in excellent condition. It is 'possible' that it could even be brand new, but I'm not sure of that. The splines are all intact. The part number on the unit is B9310. Right behind that part number there is a /20 stamped. Not sure what that is...could be the manf date stamp? Your guess is good as mine. Pulley is 6" and looks like what I would call a 'B-belt' single groove pulley. It has a base behind the pulley/clutch and looks like it mounts vertically with two slots on the side just below the shaft horizontally, and two holes nearer the bottom of the base. The shaft is 10 3/16" long with 22 splines inside the coupler. The splines all look to be in perfect condition. I did put 12V power to the clutch when I dug it out of the garage attic and the clutch seems to click into the engaged position just fine.

Please DO NOT expect me to know the exact history/condition of this as it came from an auction and has just been sitting in my garage attic for the last couple of year. I have no use for it. Did a search on the internet this AM and found this discussion forum. If you can make use of it, please let me know. I can send you a pic if you wish. Just send me a note in an email directly to me. I have no use for this item and hope there is someone that can. I understand these things are not cheap through Kubota. I am willing to sell it for a reasonable price, but don't expect me to give it away either. I think they are around $300.00 from Kubota according to my research on the internet. This item is rather heavy at 15lbs plus packaging, so expect to pay for appropriate postage. Here is my deal.....if you purchase this item and take great care to install it, and for some reason it doesn't work out for you, then I will except a return on it for the amount of purchase IF you pay for the shipping back to me. I'm thinking shipping will be around $20.00 or so through UPS.

Have a great day! :)

Hello again,

Just a follow up on the Kubota B9310 shaft that I have available. I just listed this item on eBay. Just do a search for "B9310" and it should show up. Thanks...Richard in Green Bay, WI

I couldn't find it. What did you list it under? Better yet, what is the listing number?

I listed the B9310 Kubota shaft for sale on eBay. The item number is 260488861184. It will be listed through this weekend. I believe the auction ends Sat evening. If it doesn't sell....I will re-list it probably next week. Happy Bidding!

Cutting off the end of the original shaft and welding one of these 22-Spline 27mm female couplings to it may be a solution.
Pegasus - Tripod Joint - 22 Spline, for Ralt RT40/41

or perhaps one of these:
http://www.wengers.com/parts/Farm-T...UBLE-CLUTCH/GEAR-GEAR-SHAFT/01-3135125260.htm

The Mazda/Ford 22-spline clutch disk centers are only 15/16 inch diameter. It would take some fancy machining to increase the "major and minor" spline diameter dimensions enough to fit onto Kubota's 27mm shaft.

Suzuki Esteem automobile front wheel drive constant velocity joint inner couplings have 22 splines with 23.9mm = 0.94 inch diameter which makes them another too small candidate.

Kia Spectra 2000-2003 clutch disks reportedly have 22 splines, but I have not yet found a report telling their diameter.

Mitsubishi Evo 22-spline drives are too small to fit without additional machining.
Major O.D. = 24mm = 0.9449 inches
Minor O.D. = 22mm = 0.8661 inches

Deutz Allis 7120 22-spline clutch disk center holes are 1.875 inches, which is way too large for our PTO shaft rebuilding purposes.

One person responding to my 22-spline inquiries said the Volvo 22-spline clutch hole is "0.982 to outside of splines." Just increase that by about 0.005" on all diameters and it should slide on if you need 27mm. But how could someone without a machine shop increase those dimensions? A diamond-tipped Dremel high-speed grinder and count the same number of strokes per spline, similarly to how chain saw sharpening instructions suggest? Or a diamond chip faced flat file?

I'm not eager to buy another cast iron "glass gears" too-easily broken fragile cast iron splined-shaft OEM coupling. I want a hard steel coupling which can be welded to the original cast iron shaft.

Inch to mm conversion aid:
0.9375 = 15/16
0.9449 = 24 mm
0.95313 = 61/64
0.9646 = 24.5 mm
0.96875 = 31/32
0.9843 = 25 mm
0.98438 = 63/64
1.000 = 25.4 mm
1.0039 = 25.5 mm
1.0156 = 1-1/64
1.0236 = 26 mm
1.0313 = 1-1/32
1.0433 = 26.5 mm
1.0469 = 1-3/64
1.0625 = 1-1/16
1.063 = 27 mm

Kubota B5100D front PTO driving end of engine shaft 22-spline outer diameter measured with vernier calipers appeared to be 1.164 " = 29.57mm. Larger than later Kubota 22-spline shafts or an error? More digging required.

I'd appreciate it if some of the other interested parties would help chase down candidate 22-spline 27mm to 30mm coupling potential donors and share what you find.

The spline coupling on my snow blower's B9310/20 PTO clutch assembly shaft stripped out last winter. The mating male splined shaft on the lower engine pulley of my B-7100 HST tractor was undamaged.

I read through the various posts on this thread, called major Kubota parts dealers and searched Ebay and Craig's List for a fix. Found nothing. I have a great local automotive machine shop. Even Aldo could not find a replacement coupling. Clutch plate hubs were too short. He did locate a local shop that would make the part for an astronomical price. (This shop did not make this kind of part on a regular basis.) We also considered end-for-ending the coupling. That would have only provided about 70% of the original contact area.

What I needed was a shop that had the sophisticated broaching machines that routinely cut internal keyways and internal splines. Searching the Internet lead me to B&S Machine Shop in Point Clear, Alabama (251-928-5291) B&S Machine Shop | Alabama Baldwin County Point Clear. I described the part to the owner (Harry Babb). He was sure he could make one for me, and based on my description gave me a ball park figure for the job. I sent them the coupling which had previously been removed from the shaft and in a couple of weeks received a perfect replacement. The cost was in line with the estimate. The new part has been welded to the shaft and the clutch assembly is ready for next winter.

I did learn one other thing: Harry explained that splines get stripped by a process called "frittering". It occurs when you leave the clutch mounted to the tractor for many years (like I did) without removing it and lubricating the splined parts. Apparently small rust particles form and act as a trapped abrasive to wear out the softer metal as the shaft turns and moves ever so slightly in the hub. You can bet I will be removing the clutch assembly and greasing the splines in the future.

Wow, thanks for such a relevant and informative first post! :D

Welcome aboard!
