seamless gutters

Any idea what those copper clad gutters cost? Are they copper over steel or copper over aluminum?

It's been on two houses. One I was painting the trim, the other was wood repairs. On both houses, the home owners told me they had copper gutters, but when I looked inside of them, they looked like galvanized tin to me. Totally diffenerent then the outside of them.

I don't have a clue what they cost. One house was fairly new and all the homes in the area had similar gutters. Some were newer and had more of a copper look to them.

I did notice that they were soldered together. No rivits.

Other then that, I'm pretty clueless about them.

One guy can lift 60' of gutter but you'll need two to hang it. Three people would be even better. One guy can hang 40' of gutter but it's no fun!

I agree with the others that you should have two down spouts. If you go with one you should make it a 3X4 instead of the standard 2X3.

I suspect part of the reason for the high quote is the wedges, but that's really high. $5 a foot is a reasonable price for a quality but simple gutter job.

today i got a follow up phone call, i asked some more questions, and will probably get a call from the owner of the company tomorrow or friday.

i asked about dropping off the materials, they said $300,, which is
5$ a foot, with me installing. the guy today said they normally run 8-10$ per foot installed..... too much for this old house...

i can install my own larger gutter for a lot less, and add an extra drop or 2

thanks all, eddie, ultrarunner, etc...

This thread is something I know about, My side business away from the fire dept. is seamless gutters, we do 400-500 homes per year, been in business for 30 years. 5" seamless gutter on single story homes $3.25-$4.00 ft. material and labor (add $1.25 for leaf guard). Downspouts- 2x3 $35 ea,3x4 $43 ea., For average size roofs we figure 1 2x3 spout for each 25 ft. of gutter, or 1 3x4 for 40 ft. of gutter. Real copper gutters are (the last we did) $18 ft.
But a new product "copper clad" is $6.00 ft. The copper clad is a copper/paint mix bonded to aluminum coil. It looks pretty good, but if you look close it has a "speckled" appearance. Real copper looks like a new penny inside and out.
Get more bids, I know little about the New York gutter trade, but $10 ft. is WAY out of line. Gutters from the home store are like comparing a Kia to a Lexus, they are both transportation but there is a big differance. Kind of like Hank Hill is about propane, I can talk about gutters all..... day. Jack

I have about 250 LF of copper gutter on my house, so far. The cost, installed, runs about $75/lf. The gutters are 6" half round, 24 ga., copper brackets, screws, bolts, nuts washers and I have 14, 4" downspouts.

Not cheap but beautiful. We have only had them on the house 4 years now, they are brilliant copper color for about a month, then slowly they turn a dark bronze. I have read that the classic green oxidation process start only after 10 to 15 years.

You have what most of Europe uses... lifetime, I mean several lifetimes of Service...

Very easy to keep clean too.

Had a quote today to put up two gutters on the Chicken Palace. 30 ft each side, straight run. Cost of gutter is $3.50 Per Ft, material and installed. Down spout pipe $30.00 each, one on each side. Cost to get the material from the lumber yard, 16 ft lengths of gutter appox $20.00 each including tax, down spout pipe and elbows appox $10.00 each side.
So seamless gutters and down spout pipe supplied and installed $302.40 including tax. :(
Buy material from the lumber yard and install myself: approx $112.00 including tax. :)

To flip this around.....

Do you NEED gutters?

I had them on my first house. PITA. Had to clean them often. When we got snow storms and we had quite a few when I owned the house, I had to climb up on the roof to shovel off snow to prevent ice dams.

The neighborhood had some of the worst squeeters I have ever seen because keeping the gutters cleaned was a constant chore. People could not keep them clean so there would be just enough water for the squeeters to breed.

When we built our house we did not install gutters. We have two valleys on the roof and were the water flows off we just put down some rock. Looks pretty and fits the landscaping.

Do you need gutters?

Do you need gutters?

only a sotherner ask that question.

when the snow melts off the sunny roof... and drips down to the shady ground and refrezes into a 4" skateing rink that covers your stairs, porch, sidewalk, driveway.... When the rainy season hits it rains almost every day and there is a constant flow of water into your basement (again an item a Southerner doesnt have) from the roof that dumps thousands of gallans of water just inches from the foundation

You'll quickly determine you NEED gutters
