Buying Advice Quarter-inching Valve

   / Quarter-inching Valve #51
I like Kubota tractors, but in my area the dealers don't wiggle much on price. I will strongly consider just buying a John Deere next time to get the position control in the same size tractor, and the floating mmm too. Roughly the same price around here. I would buy a Massey too, but they don't have anything in this size range, and are more expensive around here.

And that drive over deck that attaches without getting out of your seat looks very interesting. Anyone here know whether that particular one floats, or is ground contact only?

I dont get it. Dont all MMMs have to float and have anti scalp wheels and allow for raising to travel.??? I certainly get position control - just not float vs non on mmm.

On the BX series, and on a four digit B series that ends with 20, the decks hang suspended while mowing and the wheels only hit the high spots to prevent scalping (though you can lower it all the way if you want to). On the other B series and the L series that have an MMM, the deck has to be lowered such that its full weight is on the wheels when the PTO is engaged and the unit cutting. Many of us feel that the MMM that will cut while suspended does a better job on uneven turf as well as doing less windrowing when grass is wet and tall. To others, it doesn't matter. There is a lot re. this in the archives, in fact, here's a recent thread:

I like suspended MMMs, but with Kubota, you can have position control, or you can have a suspended MMM. You just can't have both on the same tractor.

I'm not sure that statement is correct. I had a B7800 and I am pretty sure the mower deck was floating (not suspended).

Sure you can!

Set your gauge wheels all the way up so they won't ride on the ground (or to wherever you feel a good anti-scalp position would be for them), and then with your handy-dandy Position Control, set the deck height to wherever you like and it will stay there.

(Yes, theoretically it works, and No I'm not being completely serious. :D)

However QI valve is a first for me.
With all this being said---My B2320 operates basically the same as all my other tractors. I can barely move the lift lever or raise it fast and the lift will start raising and will travel all the way to top. Lowering is the same.
Am I missing something or do I have a "rare breed"?

Giles, pretty sure the QI valve works the same on the Bxx20s as on the BX's. To use the QI setting, you have to pull the 3PH lever in towards the seat while moving it up or down. There are QI stops that the lever will or should hit when you pull the lever in towards the seat that it will not hit if you pull it up or push it down normally. Just used my QI function last weekend to spread some mulch with my rake. I did many rapid, small adjustments using the QI feature to keep the rake level while the front of the tractor rode up or down some

Look under the fender at your 3PH lever and you should see the QI stops. The position of the stop is adjustable and sometimes you have to move them in or out to get the QI feature to either activate, or only activate for the proper amount of time. When set right, you pull the lever in and either up or down until you hit the stop, then return to neutral. Do this rather quickly and the hitch will move in small increments.

I would have missed this myself had a dealer not demo'd the QI function when I was SCUT shopping.

No there is no "notches" on my control. The only aggrivating thing about my lift is the sensitive response. This especially true when lowering. It will basically DROP! IT IS TOO FAST!! but I will learn:(

I think there is a valve down by your feet on the BX that you can close off to slow the drop of the 3PH.

I will have to look at a Bxx20 series next time I go by the dealer to see what it looks like. The stops are little tabs that jut out into the path of the 3PH lever but you can't see them from the seat and you can't engage them without pulling the lever in towards the seat (at least on the BXs). Better yet, here's a pic of the back side of my BX 3PH levers. I circled one of the stops. You can see they are adjustable along the path of the 3PH lever by loosening the nut and sliding them in or out. I'm surprised your BX2320 doesn't have them since I thought they're required for the QI feature.

As for adjusting how fast it drops, like DelSc said, you should have a control know below the seat for rate of drop adjustment. I keep mine about a quarter to half turn past fully closed.
