Given the shape of the hood, although hard to make out, I'd say that's an old, old machine. Late 80's, early 90's Murray or some such. I note the manual deck engage arm.

Not bad for a 20 year "cheapie" lawn tractor. Fact is that while the creature comforts weren't there, and those older Craftsman/Murray type machines weren't built all that great, it just goes to show that many of them lasted a good long time and took an amazing amount of abuse. Their owners didn't have a million bucks in them either.

I suspect the reasoning behind the electric pto on the new small riders is it is the cheapest way to add the failsafe devices.

I know that the older machines seemed to work longer with the gear tranny and manual pto engagement. They were harder to manuever though.

I just did this about 2 weeks ago.

I really need to buy a mowing deck for my tractor.

We have an old red garden tractor that we used on sides of gravel roads and surprisingly rough trails until we got our MX6 for the 4320. Amazing what it could go through really, downside is that you risk much more damage when you run into the inevitable rocks.

Compared to what I used to mow (a 2 acre tract of 6' tall Giant Ragweed) with my 14hp Yardman 42" mower that lot is a cakewalk. I beat that poor little lawn tractor all to hades. The belt guard on the main pulley got pulled off early on and I never have found it after 8 years of mowing. It will be much easier now though!

But, even without the 6' tall weeds, that is a hot job.

Yep! and dang sure beats a yo-yo!

Man ain't that the truth, I used one of those things growing up to clear under our electric fence, clear weeds out of the pasture and anywhere there was something to cut. I sure stayed in shape though.

From the looks of the GM car, it appears to be of the vintage as the mower.

Anybody else wonder what the winch and fabricated structure on the front of that rig is for?

Is it a manually operated front snow plow? Colorado in the winter? Just wondering. Somebody went to some trouble to make that thing and I haven't seen a 20-yr old rider with anything like that before.
