Bigger hitch capacity or weight distributing hitch?

Great discussion, but -
Any currently recommended brands of WD, other than 40?

I like Curt brand stuff. I used to be a Reese guy but the paint is not worth a crap anymore. Curt is US made and has a good finish.

I'm strongly considering an upgraded Curt hitch for my truck. They offer one that will bolt right into place of my factory unit and at a better price than the competition to boot.

I ordered my 2004 F250SD without Ford's crappy hitch and installed Draw-Tite's Class V-5 hitch. Rated 1K/10K standard ball carrying, 1.2K/12K weight distributing. I am at or a little over 1K tongue weight. Has worked fine for 6 years. Make sure your drawbar and ball are rated to 1K/10K too. Take your truck, truck and empty trailer, and tuck and loaded trailer to truck stop scales to check all your weights. I do not use the weight distributing feature. Philip.

Sure is a funny way to carry your spare tire!

Did you have much luck finding a 10k stinger? Was it particularly expensive?

Looking at the way your truck is squatting and the fact that your tongue jack hangs so low, you should be using a WD hitch. I bet every bump sends that rear end bouncing 3-4".

PHILIP8N,
What length is your trailer and what is it's weight rating?
Thanks,

Those appear to be 5200# axles on the trailer. And looking at how the truck is squatting, surely there is something loaded in the bed too...

It just does not look like there should be much tongue weight with the light trailer, and relatively light tractor.

I would guess Phillip8n is pulling a 16' + 2'DT trailer. And the tractor could be 4-5k lbs with the loader and implements (depending on if the rears are loaded or not). So he's pulling similar to me at 7-8k lbs. It does seem to be sitting low....Got lead in that tongue tool box?

I need to measure my heights before and after hook up....
