You are correct, I should have said there was no 1998 Superduty, or 1998 F350.

I forgot about those wacky 7 lug light duty F250s....

The next year they dropped the Light Duty F250 and made a HD F-150. Same truck really. Had 7 lug axles, 4.10 gears, ect. I had one and it was a pulling machine. Loved that truck and should have never traded it in.

I got to drive one just like it while in Wheeling West VA last year. It had a plow on it. Sure did bring back memories.

I have an 01 f250 with the v10 and 3.73s. It is ok if you want to run empty down the highway with little to no hills. But, it drops the RPMs too much to keep it in the power on the highway.

Up to about 12-13k lbs, it's not bad for towing. Beyond that, I can't say.

I am on my second set of plugs and as long as you take it to someone who is used to them, they generally won't spit plugs.

In the 7 years and 140,000 miles, I had one plug cap fail, plugged fuel filter and locked up A/C compressor. Other than that, just routine fluid changes and maint.

I average about 14 on the highway empty. Down to about 9 towing 10k. No noticeable change pulling the bota.

I have a 1999 F-250 XLT SuperCab 4x4 with a V-10, 5-speed manual, and 4.11 limited slip rear-end. I get 13 to 13.5 empty. I don't tow often enough to have reliable mileage figures; but when I towed a mini-excavator home from the rental yard, I had no complaints with power. The 4.11 gears don't make it fast off the line; but the extra 1,000 pounds capacity they provide is worth it.

I knew it was going to be a gas hog when I bought it, and I expected 10-MPG empty, so getting 13 is gravy to me.

I don't drive it everyday, so it has low miles; but the only repair was a faulty engine sensor recently. Otherwise, nothing but routine maintenance and a couple of warranty items.

Main issue with your truck is the 3.73 gears. Great for highway with that engine but the 4.10 and 4.30 gears turn that V-10 into a different beast.

Yep, the light duty F250, gas only. It looks like an F150 that someone stuck the wrong badges on.

I've owned two 7.3 diesels and worked on a couple of Ford V10s. The biggest problem the V10 had, reliability wise, was the coil packs. I replaced several of them. Likewise, for a long time the 7.3 was known for a bad CPS. Ford finally issued a recall a couple of years ago, the recall supplied part seems to have fixed it. Last I priced them, the post recall part from a Ford dealer was about 30.00, and the generic parts store replacement was still $100.00+.

I'm shopping for my 3rd 7.3 truck right now.

that cps is now 27$ at napa.. I just picked up one for my 7.3 to throw in the glovebox.

Last CPS I bought for my old 99 F-350 7.3L was around $30 also. Changed it once then never again but carried a spare for years and the 10MM??? wrench it needed to change it.

Sure do miss that truck. RIP "Big Nasty!"

A deer ran out in front of it about a year and a half ago. One of my employee's was driving. The deer came out of the brush and hit the windshield on the drives side. He brought his arms up to cover his face, I probably would have done the same thing as a reaction, and it went off the road and hit a stump which took the front axle out from under it then darted back across the road and hit a telephone pole. It was totaled. He was not hurt other than a few scrapes and bumps.

Loved that truck. Nothing fancy, just a regular cab, long bed, green 4x4 SRW F-350 XLT Powerstroke with 4" pipe, a chip, and a intake. It was sitting on some 35" BFG's. Great truck. The 7.3L with big exhaust sound great, only second to a Cummins.

My BIL gave it the name "Big Nasty" when we pulled 20,000# across the state with it on my old 25K GN trailer.

I drive a 2002 F-350 with a 7.3 Powerstroke and pull a 35 ft 5th wheel. I drive a 2006 F-250 V10 at work. I pulled a 24 ft trailer with the V10 only once. Hands down the powerstroke is the better vehicle to pull a trailer. When I pulled with the V10 I just watched the gas gauge slowly go down. The next time I pulled the trailer, at work, I used my own truck!

weird.. a guy I work with just had a deer run across the road, miss him, then turn around and dart back across.. went thru the windshield right next to him, broke in half and the rear half went on top of the cab and crushed it down!

truck was a 94 ford f250 pacifica with a 7.3 l turbo ( idi turbo? ) due to age.. it totaled the truck... sad too.. guy just put 2000$ into the tranny.. and truck value was probably 3500$.. damage estimate is 2500-2800 . Was one of our company trucks.

I knda hope we keep it.. I've been looking at a 96 f350 srw to replace my old dodge 1/2 ton with.. same engine I think.. might be nice to have a spare.. :)
