Aye, the last I checked was within a few weeks of the new Ford part coming out. Makes sense that the aftermarket would drop the price accordingly.

The next time I pulled the trailer, at work, I used my own truck!

Did your company reimburse you for your mileage based on current Federal mileage rates?

If you get in an accident using your personal vehicle pulling a company trailer on company business; whose insurance picks up the tab? I'm not trying to be a killjoy as I'd be tempted to do the same thing as you; but our blasted litigious society sure makes getting the job done difficult.

I was thinking the same thing. My work had a Dodge Dakota for years and there was many times my F-150, Dodge 2500, F-250, GM3500, or F-350 would have done the job better but I never did. I always used the Dakota because that is what it was there for.

I don't get to play with the F series too often, as my daily driver is a full size van (07 E 250, 5.4, 3.73 gears). I have no complaints using it to pull my 7-8000 pound trailer.

I recently got to drive a E 350 V10. It was surrounded by motorhome. The extra power of the V10 was more than enough to make up for extra weight and wind drag of a small apartment behind me. I even had enough confidence to pass someone on a two lane road (I'd love to have heard the conversation in that car, though).

The V10 in the SD's is called Ford's Best Kept Secret by many owners on Ford Truck Enthusiasts. Basically the power of the diesels without the special handling and maintenance diesels require (Yeah, I know - not exactly, but close enough for arugments sake). In 2005 Ford went to the 3V heads and they have a substantial power boost over the earlier versions (on the V8 and V10 - the 3V V8 had about the same power as the 2V V10). Spark plug spitting was a problem with all of the modular series engines up until about 2003 when Ford changed the head design to add more threads to the spark plug port. I forget the exact year but I think 2003's and beyond were good for that problem. All 3V engines don't have the problem.

HTH Not fixed until NOV 2008 here is the S/B.. This is probably the number 1 issue on the ford Forums. Th first page lists the Date range but it effects all mod motors until nov 2008 when New style heads entered the production line this is supposed to fix the plugs popping out and the plug breakage problem when you change the spark plugs.

I have a F350 with the powerstroke and an excursion with the V10.

I am trying to find an excursion with the powerstroke.

Great power and reliable - it passes everything but the gas station!

12 MPG normally and 8 towing the boat. The powerstroke gets 17 normally and 13-14 towing.

low end torque probably keep sthe engine from working as hard on acceleration while loaded, and thus helps the fuel economy..

I drove a Ford 350 Econoline (van) at work from 2004 to 2009. It had the V-10 in it with automatic and around town it would get around 10.5 - 11 mpg with me driving it in a decent manner. Weighed right around 7800 pounds.

I drove 3 different Ford vans at work between 1991 and 2009, an 84, a 94 and a 04. I am not a Ford fan but I have to say, all three of those vans were better units than the Dodges or Chevy vans we had. Much better in fact.
