Hooking up PTO

Probably not helping that I have sweat running into my eyes, glasses are almost worthless, Im just on that ragged edge of mad....then the bugger wont go on....

Probably the only one with such an issue.

Dampen a "doo rag" (bandana like some bikers wear) and put it on. It'll keep your head cooler and dramatically reduce sweat in your eyes and glasses slipping.
I had the same problem with sweat and the glasses, so this is how I solved that...works good.

As far as hooking up the PTO, the other guys have been giving you good advice. I'll just reiterate the importance of the driveshaft U-Joint and the tractor's PTO stub shaft being clean and lubricated (I use Fluid Film or a spray on white grease). Even after the implement use, spray those areas to prevent rust (for the next hook up).
Keep a rag or two handy.

I NEVER touch a PTO shaft connected to a tractor if the tractor is on. I will run something (like the mower conditioner) and get off the tractor and go BEHIND it, but if the tractor is on, I do not get in front of the feed or near anything moving.

I will agree with everyone that has said that, but I was curious. I usually have to have the tractor running to connect the 3pt but the PTO can be frustrating and since it can take time I turn my tractor off. When I connect the 3PT with the engine running, I lock the brakes and set the FEL down to help limit possible movement, I would prefer to shut down the engine but too often I have to adjust the 3PT setting to connect it. I will assume that pushing the 3PT quick connections back into place is not important before connecting the PTO as long as I do it before riding off with the attachment.

This is kind of a weird suggestion, but for me, I have better luck hooking up my PTO shafts if I approach the machine from the left side. I guess this is because I may have more strength in my right arm.

I grab the shaft with my right arm and operate the latching mechanism with my left hand. If I try doing this from the right side, it is a struggle, but easy from the left. So, you might want to try it from the opposite side from where you've been trying it before.

As others have mentioned, I also find it easier to line up the splines if I shift the PTO control to "front" which free's up the PTO shaft to rotate.

Never ever underestimate trolls. But the humidity has been rather oppressive. Almost feels like the east side of the state.

There is a reason they call where I live "Swamp East Missouri".:(

I know...drove through there three weeks ago on way to Memphis and 4 days of handgun training in the sweltering delta. Had tea at Flying J at Mathews exit.
Son...it was hot. Just worse in Memphis.
