Bad Knees

I know several people with knee and hip replacements.....and each and every one of them has told me they were happy with the outcome....and most have wondered why they waited so long. I wish you the best outcome too Bird!

Oh...and as for the type of grease to use....I believe either elbow grease or neatsfoot oil will both work equally different. ;)

After 15 years of scope surgery (6 times) injections (countless) My BIL finally got rid of the pain with a knee replacement at our local Glasgow, Ky hospital. He says he wishes he not waited so long. Ken Sweet

I am doing well with my hip surgery - replaced the "ball" at the head of the femur. Almost no pain post surgery. I had 10 days of in-patient PT and four months of out-patient PT starting with 3 sessions a week and tapering to 1 per week. As much as anything that was also for strengthening my knees. I am using 2 canes but mostly because of my knees. I like my surgeon and will go to him for knee replacement. I noticed that he had the Striker brochures in his exam rooms so I assume that is what he uses. I will have to ask his office.

I will probably schedule a knee replacement when our son can spend some time here with us again. Left first then right.

Sorry for your loss. My Mother would still be alive if she had not went to the E-Town hospital. I can say that TJ and the attending surgeon saved my life 13 years ago when I had a colon rupture. The Coach at Campbellsville University did not make it off the operating table with the same problem that I had. Ken Sweet

So, I haven't been in touch with this thread for a while and somewhere I got the idea that the schedule is UPON our friend Bird about now.

Bird; If you're reading TBN then either you're in recovery or got a postponement (-:
Either way I would like to hear how you're doing - and at a guess so would MANY others here.

Best,

Reg

Reg, originally I was scheduled for surgery on the 23rd, but then the doctor's nurse called a couple of weeks ago to say they'd like to move me to the 30th and asked if that would be a problem, so I agreed to that. She didn't say and I didn't ask why. I'm to be there at 9 a.m. for surgery at 11 a.m. Monday, the 30th. So I guess I'm second on the schedule for that day. I know when she originally scheduled me for the 23rd, she said I'd be second on the schedule for that day and I asked her what time he starts and she said 7:30 a.m. I had read that this kind of surgery takes about 2 hours, so I had asked the doctor if that was about right and he said, "Yes, or a little less."

well my wife got her new left knee this morning: surgery took 45 minutes: she has an epidural for pain management: so she is 100% pain free at the moment: i know it will change when the drugs are removed but she has been in pain for a while: according to information we got about the surgery: the synvisc shots have been proven not to be effective on someone with severe arthritis and sensitivity of the knee: which is mild compared to what the wife has had: but her "other dr" is 65 years old an has cut back to only working 2 or 3 days a week: so we finally figured out that he may not be keeping up with the latest info..i don't know what the new knee is called, but it is suppose to last 30 years ..sure hope so..

Glad to hear she's pain free, and that sounds like some pretty quick surgery. And I understand my doctor uses the epidural in addition to putting you to sleep. Does your wife have one of those Continuous Passive Motion (CPM) machines? I'm told I'll have that to exercise the leg and knee even when asleep.
