Brake Cleaner & HEAT = VERY DANGEROUS !!!

is this limited to brake cleaner.. or apply to carb cleaner too?

I tend to use the two interchangeably when I'm at the store buying it.. I do weld too.. though no mig so no argon..

The bad ingredient is chlorine and bonds with the hydrocarbons in the cleaner. Read the label before use.

Can't even hardly get the chlorinated kind around me anymore. It work good for seating tires when I didn't have ether.

Sometimes I'm amazed I'm still alive.

A younger and dumber self may have intentionally blasted brake cleaner past a lit torch for a little flamethrower effect.

Or it could have been a dream, not sure. :ashamed:

I've found another good use for it, It will kill bees almost on contact. When you spray their nest, most of the time they can't even fly, they just drop and die. Really potent stuff.

Many parts washers have Stoddard solvent in them. It is also known as white spirit. Also was used for dry cleaning.

We don't use anything "Chlorinated" because of this phosgene issue and we do not want any to accidentally mix in with our waste oil that is used in our waste oil furnace....that being said, we use regular carb spray for degreasing all the time......

Yup the brake cleaner I pick up at WalMart doesn't have the phosgene causing chemical in it...but a name brand that is more expensive right next to it does. I also buy their carb cleaner but reserve it for tougher jobs on something it won't damage, I've had it attack some plastics and paint. Which can be a good thing if thats what you want:thumbsup:
