You mean since when has it dropped to 20%? This account was opened in 1997 with 25K (it is now at about 195K) and it was almost all NASDAQ which I got out of when the NADAQ was a little under 5,000 in late 1999 early 2000 as I recall. It was opened for purely speculative investing.

During the tech boom in the first years I played with it, was approaching 30%-35% some years, only because I was inexperienced, I had friends that were hitting 50-60% for those years. But 20% has been the norm for the past 5 years. Again, look at the mix of stocks I am holding at the moment. Pretty unusual. Plus they will all be sold within the next month and I will be buying dividend stocks based on ex-dividend dates (date you must own the stock to receive a dividend) so that is why it is almost sure I will get to 20% this year, being at 17% today.

I also get out of the market for months at a time when I get nervous and do FOREX trading, which I do have some luck with, helps keep the ROI up there.

Point is though, even with a 5% ROI on the cash you would pay pay up front for a 20K tractor, you would need about a 5K discount to make paying cash worth while rather than taking the 60 month interest free financing.
