So why do you buy Kubota? Even though Roy says JD's best? :)

There are no liens on tractors.

When you take a loan out on a Kubota tractor, I assume others, there is a lien on the tractor. They file paperwork with either your town or state so if you don't pay and they come to take your tractor away there will be no issues. Kubota usually charges about $100 to file the paperwork.

I never said it didn't make sense to pay cash for everyone, I just said that there is a discount. For me it makes sense because I lease the tractor to the business.

Ah. Sometimes I think about trying to raise some animals or garden crops for "business" reasons. But unlike you and many other people here, I don't actually know enough about it. I also wouldn't have the time to dedicate to the task, and I couldn't honestly say I had any real profit motives. Business deductions for my tractor expenses would be nice though...:)

Don't give me too much credit, I quit farming years ago for a steady paycheck. We cash rent some our farm land and use the rest for conservation and to have something to do in our retirement.

I am going to stay away from the financial discussion.

Sorry, it never makes sense if the discount does not equal or exceed the amount of return the money you hand over will have made over the 5 years that you had use of the interest free money. Leasing the tractor to the business doesn't change this fact.

In most states tractors do not have titles, hence there is no way to put a lien on a tractor. If you mean the UCC filing, it is not the same as a lien.

Maybe this is or isn't the right thread for the financial discussion, but it might be cool to have a retirement planning section on this forum. We all should do it and would be nice to stay on the same forum for all of our favorite subjects,at least those two are my favorites, tractors and money. If nothing else,it might help us support our tractor addiction.Thoughts?

I'd love a retirement thread...but fear that problems would be rampant...too personal, revealing of private information, emotional "my way is better than your way," this is a PUBLIC forum and it's too easy to forget that....It is stunning how much info we necessarily reveal to participate in these threads

Not to be paranoid, but there are bad guys out there leeching off of the honest and well meaning among us.

Example: I just flagged the same post for the exact same item on Craig's List that was advertised in 10 or more cities in several states. Same photos, email contact only. Clearly a scam for an super bargain priced item with extremely appealing photos and impossibly good story re the item's use...just a few minutes in several years.

I know, we are all big boys and are allowed to reveal or not as we wish....

Just my :2cents:

We can agree to disagree about which is the best way to pay for a tractor.

As far as UCC filing not a lien here's a quote from the state of Utah, it was the first that came up:
What is the purpose of filing a UCC financing statement?

A financing statement is a document stating that an entity/individual (secured party) has a claim (security interest) in certain property (collateral) belonging to another entity/individual (debtor). For example, a business owner borrows money from a bank and uses the assets of a business as collateral for the loan. The bank as the "secured party" will most likely file a financing statement with the UCC Office within the Division of Corporations. By filing a financing statement, the bank establishes its priority over the collateral in the event the business owner files for bankruptcy or becomes insolvent.

The filed financing statement gives notice to anyone who might be interested that the secured party has a "perfected security interest" in the business' assets. If other secured parties file financing statements naming the same debtor and collateral, the date of filing sets up a priority for payment on a first in time basis.

Typically, a person would not file a UCC financing statement unless they are engaged in some form of commercial transaction that involves a debtor and a secured party.

The Utah Division of Corporations and Uniform Commercial Code files and maintains these records on financial obligations incurred by individuals, business entities, and corporations. This information is important to any business or financial institution contemplating entering into a lien transaction as the secured party (the party providing funds or financing collateral).

Knowing the current financial status of the debtor before extending credit is crucial, and it is the number of active, existing liens already in effect for that particular debtor that most interests the potential secured party. As a prerequisite to entering into a lien relationship, many potential secured parties first research a debtor name to determine their credit worthiness and then demand a lien filing in regard to the actual, current transaction. Secured parties routinely include banks, commercial businesses (appliances, autos, boats, etc.) and sole proprietors.

This thread is the most completely hijacked thread I've ever seen.

No longer about Kubota purchasing but personal finance decisions. One of you guys need to start a personal tractor finance thread and take each other on there.

Kubota usually charges about $100 to file the paperwork.

Kubota charged me $30.00 (Michigan), I don't know if this is a standard rate or if each state charges a different amount. I do know many dealers like to hike this up, most dealers quote between $100 and $150. The dealer I bought from (honest Abe) charged the actual fee that Kubota charges him.

As for paying cash - there is something to be said for the peace of mind that you "own" the tractor.

It may or may not be that the 5 year loan is a better financial option, but none of us knows what the next 5 years will bring. If the 5 year loan runs it's course, the 0% could actually be a better deal, but many things can happen in 5 years.

At least if you pay cash, you own the tractor. It is yours! You do not have to worry about payments for the next 5 years - even if you have the $$$ in a special account for making the payments.

As for why we are looking at orange for our next tractor (TLB 39/45), we like the machine better. The dealers have been more helpful and patient (the deal is taking a while - our fault).

We looked at green (well actually yellow - JD110 is in the non-green line) and it did not have all the features the Kubota does. Unlike some of the 6' + guys on here, we (my father-in-law [76] and me [58]) are only 5'8" and do not have sasquatch feet. The position of the pedals are just fine for us. However, the "tilt wheel" is another story. Moving that sucker closer to the seat is a real help and JD does not have this feature on the 110.

For us, the bigger difference is if we are going to spring for the extra $$$ to get HST (TLB45) over Glide Shift (TLB39).

Perhaps this will help put the thread back on theme
