Afraid I have to disagree with that and since John Deere makes tractors in India and uses foreign suppliers, I don't see the whole "Buy American" as relevant anymore. Our manufacturers depend on other countries' consumers to buy our goods and a LOT of "foreign brands" have factories here and their domestic content equals or exceeds that of some America brands.

10. How can you beat Deere Green/Yellow? It's NOT possible!

Actually it is, JMO

While that's true and no matter what you buy it likely has foreign parts in it, Deere does full assemblies here. If you look at the assembly line for even lawn equipment the chasis welding and decks get stamped here. The combines and large tractors are completely made here also. My 3320 was assembled in the USA (Georgia) and it says so right on it.
I'll buy a Honda, Subaru or Toyota here because they are built right here with plants right here employing American workers. I figure the best you can do is buy what employs the most Americans but I won't buy a piece of junk that's made here but personally I don't see a lot of that. I think the American worker is as good as any worker and takes as much pride in his or her product as anyone else.

Lots of machines are built somewhere else and optioned out here, I wouldn't say this is the case with Deere.
I think if you buy a Kubota, you'll get a good tractor, I'm not sure the parts avalibility is up to Deere though. Hard to beat Deere on parts, Agilent comes pretty close though but that's test instruments.

It is just a source of annoyance to me when people make the judgment that others "Buy American" as it is clearly the case that having an American logo does not make it an American made product. From John Deere's own information the 5000 Series is manufactured in India. They are by no means alone with American cars/trucks manufactured in other countries and sold here.

I am all for supporting the American worker, but I will do so only when the product meets my needs at a competitive price.

I never told anyone what to buy, nor would I. I only gave my views on what I look for, Deere may have a tractor made in India but not the one I bought or the ztrac I own. Both are made here and that influenced my decision. Where's your tractor made?

Also, I stated the same thing as you, I won't buy junk regardless where it's made.

Sorry about that, but my reference was to rbcsaver's post in regards to an obligation to "Buy American". I don't know how to do multi-quote posts or it would have been clearer.

Yes, we are saying close the same, I am just not as committed as you; may just be a matter of semantics.

I believe my John Deere was made in Japan, Massey Ferguson in England, Fords in the US, Case US, one Kubota in the US and two in Japan.

My truck, car and van are all American made as is/are my motorcycle, ATV's, RUV's.

I have mentioned often that I have little use of my left leg, so I find it extremely difficult to operate anything with left foot braking. Also since all my other tractors have right foot brakes, switching from one to the other could prove dangerous. In my youth I know people who crashed their motorcycles due to the brakes being on the right side on some and left on others.

Yep...about 40% of the "American made" icon, Harley Davidson, is imported.

Re: So why do you buy Deere? Even when times are tough?

With all the other threads popping up here about the economy and cheaper tractors on the market, I want to ask you, why do you buy Deere?

I buy Deere because we deal with the Deere dealerships a lot with our farm. I get good prices and for the size machine I just bought, I do not think anyone makes anything like it with a cab. I always look to other dealers/makes, but i always feel I get the best service and quality with Deere.

How about you?

Also, if anyone who does not buy Deere is reading, why don't you buy Deere?

Yep, it was the cab that sold me. My other tractors are open station and are all blue. I like NH tractors and have had nothing but good luck with them. But, JD makes the best cab.

Even worse, unless its a Sportster, we're now importing it into York too!!! :(

It's the way of business survival today. I'm curious, is there any product completely made in any country? Aside from food.
I just got a Lie-Nielsen chisel and the handle is made from American Hornbeam, the steel is A2 or O1, not sure which one but it might be completely made here from US steel. They do say "Made in the USA". Nice tools but pricey. The forging is done here, they're up in Maine. I have their planes too, beat the pants of the Japanese woodworking tools that are now the rage in my view.
