So why do you buy Deere? Even when times are tough?

I've owned Porsches to XKE Jags and everything in between. I did love my BMW, I won't say I didn't but now I own an Outback (since 2006). I really like this car. Not the best in any one thing but good in just about all things. It's a very well rounded car and hard to beat in the snow. I live in Subie country and there are a lot of them running around here. My brother has an old one with over 240k on it and everything works, even the air.

Cars are different for me now. I want to get from point 'A' to point 'B' safely, economically and comfortably. I could get a Merc or a Lexus but I like that the Subie is made in Indiana and they are a zero waste facility.

Little Blue Tractor, I understand you reasons for getting the Mahindra. How good a decision a tractor is can only be determined by any of us if we owned several different tractor brands. I love my Deere but I have never owned a Mahindra. I like that the Deere is assembled here, I like that I absolutely can get parts tomorrow for my Deere equipment and not that I probably can get parts because it's produced under several different names. That's part of what i paid for when I bought Deere.

Hey Rob, I know how it is with brands and loyalty to them when you know what the differences are between them. I've always used Apple Macintosh computers even though they are typically more expensive up front. But they last longer, have fewer problems, have a nicer interface, tend to last much longer than a PC, have a better resale value, and thus save money in the long term. Plus I make my living with a computer and need something I can rely on. Can I convince any of my co-workers and friends that the Mac is the better way to go? -- rarely, if ever. The tractor purchase was on a whole different scale for me and I still can't see the intangibles you guys talk about being worth the extra money to me. But I do understand these things are worth it to you. Pretty much everybody else on TBN knows more about this tractor stuff than me, so I wouldn't advise anyone to follow in my tracks too far.:)

With all the other threads popping up here about the economy and cheaper tractors on the market, I want to ask you, why do you buy Deere?

I buy Deere because we deal with the Deere dealerships a lot with our farm. I get good prices and for the size machine I just bought, I do not thank anyone makes anything like it with a cab. I always look to other dealers/makes, but i always feel I get the best service and quality with Deere.

How about you?

Also, if anyone who does not buy Deere is reading, why don't you buy Deere?

Ill admit the JD cab is a great cab and prob the roomiest and this is come a MF dealer. I like and own MF and did before i became a dealer for them. Hard to beat thier hp and weight. That and i didnt like to pay extra for the color green.

Back in 1984 when IBM came out with the Jr. and Apple the Mac, I went with the Mac. The Jr. bombed and the Apple, well it was the apple of everyone's eye, so to speak. Trouble was it wasn't everything it was cracked up to be, in honesty nothing was back then. Computers crashed everyday.
Finally I wanted something I could get into, pull apart, mod and the Apples were closed machines, are they still today?

Bottom line, all my programs are windows and I'd say the two systems are pretty close but you do this everyday and I don't so you probably know a lot more about it than I do.

I don't need the top of the line computer even though I use it for more things than most people. (CAD, CAM, CNC, EDA, etc).

Maybe, in fairness to you, this is the difference in tractors too. Maybe if I was you I'd be getting the Mahindra. If you are happy, if it fits your needs than perfect,we're both happy.

It's the way of business survival today. I'm curious, is there any product completely made in any country? Aside from food.
I just got a Lie-Nielsen chisel and the handle is made from American Hornbeam, the steel is A2 or O1, not sure which one but it might be completely made here from US steel. They do say "Made in the USA". Nice tools but pricey. The forging is done here, they're up in Maine. I have their planes too, beat the pants of the Japanese woodworking tools that are now the rage in my view.

Yep, look here:
Henry Repeating Arms Company - About Us
But, for the most part, you're correct.

I guess things can still be made here 100% if they don't include electronics like Henry and Lie-Nielsen.

Just think, Chinese made electronic components are defending our nation.
