That was true for a lot of cars though... There a lot of stripped down basic cars with big engines, often no PS, no PB, sometimes still all drum brake, on bias ply's

To quote Don Yenko when asked about the 1969 Yenko 427:
"a beast, almost lethal, a car that they should not have produced; as they were skirting the edge of product liability when they built this car?

any 60's vette with a drop top or split window. or 67-69 Z 28 camaro or a yenko camaro. Anything with shelby's name on it. 61 Impala bubble top.(409) 32 ford.
56 ford pick up. 67-72 chevy pick up. Dang I like too many cars. I have a 64 1/2 mustang conv. with 289 that I wish I could afford to make one of my favorites.

Heehaw" You didn't see any 57 Fords listed because anyone who owned and worked on them never wants to see them again. The distributor was tucked up under the firewall and you had to have a majic moment to change the points.

The rocker arms were prone lubrication problems and it was common to see outside copper oiler lines from the pressure sending unit plumbed to the rocker covers to get oil to the rocker arms.

I don't know about all others but mine had the tumblers fall out of the ignition switch at least twice. I drilled out the switch and you could start the car with a popsicle stick.

In the late 70's I bought a 56 Ford Victoria from a friend that he'd put a 390 in. I'm a country boy who was living in town then and earned the local back yard mechanics respect when in one day dropped the 3sp outa that car in the driveway and proceeded to build a trans outa it and 2 others (one an overdrive). Had it back in and on the road that evening, ye ha! lol

That was a very popular conversion in the 60's. Almost everything bolted right up. Two of my friends had 1955 Fords with stock 390s in them. They could fly.

In '59/60, my Dad diced it up with another guy for fastest in the Sacramento Ca area. He had a '32 Ford pickup, drop front axle. Him and my Grandfather owned a race car that they had someone else drive, a '37 Ford dirt track car.

They would race the local circuit Fri/Sat/Sun(3 local tracks). Then Sunday eve, my Dad would pull the race motor from the car, and drop it in his truck. Only took a couple hours; easy to work on stuff. Over the next few days, he would build another race motor for the stock-car(not every week, but frequently).

I have talked to family friends and other people who knew him back then. They said that truck was scary fast. It ran really low 12's. with a 3spd stick, and those narrow bias plys they had back then.

Nowas days, it would take hours just to take pictures of everything in the engine compartment BEFORE even turning a wrench to pull a motor...

You guys are giving me the itch to get back to work on my '55.

Here is how she looked when she was almost done.

This is after driving under a box van in the rain.

Here are some shots taking her apart and getting started on putting her back together.

There are some more pics somewhere with the other fender on, and the hood trim and headlights installed, I'll have to find those. Right now it is all disassembled again to do the paint and suspension work. I don't think I have touched it in 2 years.

There was a beautiful 37 Plymouth sedan street rod with a fully chromed 454 Chevy motor at a local car cruise yesterday afternoon. I didn't have my camera with me but on the back trunk lid the owner had a chromed metal script attached that said Hybrid. I was confused but figured he meant it was a Plymouth / Chevy hybrid. While looking at the car someone else (also confused) asked the owner what he meant by Hybrid. Without skipping a beat the owner said "yeah, its a Hybrid, it burns gas and rubber."
