Maybe this has been covered previously, but I haven't been able to find it. If you fill your tires, can the sloshing of the fluid create balance or instability problems when operating on the road? I've considered loading the tires but held off because we perioidically need to make a 6 mile round trip on paved roads with the tractor to another location. Road gear gives us about 15mph, and loading the rear tires - R4's - would add another 1,000 lbs to a tractor that is already at 5,500 to 7,500 lbs, depending on what it's doing that day. Will appreciate anyone's experience or advice before we add fluid. Thanks,

Never had a problem or known anyone that had a problem.

Hwy speeds shouldn't be a problem, or it hasn't been a problem for me when I've had tires loaded. When properly filled, they should be about 2/3rds to 3/4 full, that doesn't leave much room to slosh around in, plus hiways are generally smooth so it should do fine in high gear. Sometimes tractors will bounce at certain speeds but that's generally a thing with physics where it's sort of oscillating at certain frequencies caused by the weight of the tractor and flexation of the tires, or else a bent axle/warped rim scenario.

No problems. Unless it is frozen.

Thanks, everyone. As you know, you can get some front to back pitching motion over uneven pavement with the short wheelbase of a CUT. Never heard it mentioned previously, but it led me to wonder if adding fluid would make any difference you'd notice.

I haven't had any issues, but I keep it 12mph or less.

If you have a loader, make sure you've got some rear ballast on the 3PH. That will reduce that pitching considerably.
As far as the liquid ballast...never noticed it on the road.

Deutz Fahr Agrofarm 100/ 4 wheel drive with liquid in all 4. It'll run 30 mph and can't tell the tires are loaded from the ride.

We run tractors of different sizes the 8 mile round trip between two of our farms with all pavement and sometimes the 12 miles to the other with about half gravel.

Well how the heck do you get anywhere?
I've never seen an issue with our tractors. Which are top speed between 18-23. The local pd has invested in those radar speed signs, so I'm always "testing" how fast I can go.
Heck the new high speed tractors like the Fendts will do 30-40 and run loaded tires.

I'm pretty sure that my L4200 tapped in 8th doesn't go more than 12MPH or so.

I do almost exactly what you're saying, mine are filled, & have had zero problems whatsoever. I drive mine ~4 miles ... ~2 limerock road + ~2 pavement ... one-way (8 mi round trip) every time I use it at my property; Made the trip close to 20 times now. The ride is prefectly fine (as good as a tractor on R4's can be, I'd guess :)), & I feel no balance or instability problems at all.

You might be surprised. Our L3830GST tops out at 18MPH (governed I think) in 12th gear with the pedal to the floor.

There have been situations where the fluid will go "over the top" in the tire and cause erratic behaviour. These have been when someone puts a tractor in neutral (gear tranny) and gets higher speeds going down a hill. When it happens, it is sudden and can cause some mild panic. Getting on the brakes will settle it down quick.
But it doesn't happen when traveling in road gears and road speeds normal to tractors. So my answer would be "no problem".
The fast tractors of days gone by were like the Graham Bradley. They had a road gear that would get around 30 mph give or take a few. Great for running to town when 13 years old. :D

LOL, somebody here gave me grief because I go too fast, and now I'm too slow. :D I only travel within about a 1/2 mile area so it's no big deal.

I run my yanmar at full speed on roads with loaded tires and i havent found any instability. But then again, my yanmar doesnt go very fast. Definatly not 12mph, or 10.:ashamed:

Very unsafe practice...

That will make it worse.

well heres my experience with loaded tires on the road. i purchased a ford 8000 with the rears loaded, on the road it would do about 18 mph, but could only go about 15 to 16 before it would start swaying side to side pretty bad. ran it this way a few years, a good bit on the road since i had some hayfields here and there at the time. decided after a few years to pump out the calcium, didnt need the weight and thought it would be better on the fields when it was a bit wet. well it ran down the road like a car after that! no sway etc! maybe mine were overloaded dont know, but it sure rode alot better without it. tractor got up to speed faster without the extra 3500lbs too!
