EPA wants to regulate farm dust

EPA wasn't created until about 1985 when the river flowing through Ohio (can't remember the name think it was the Catahoochie River) caught fire and was on tv.

Just a few facts about "Love Canal". I live about 20 miles from that site. When it was used for a dump site by Hooker Chem it was capped with over 12 feet of clay. The city of Niagara falls wanted the area to build on and when the company wouldn't sell it the city took it by eminate domain.

The first thing they did was scrape off about 11 feet of the clay cap, so who created the problem.

The company was sued because you can't sue the city.

Likely so, but when the EPA took the ash out of powerplant smokestacks nobody went without power. There's enough non-essentials in most peoples lives that they can do without if food costs a little more. Deregulation of price on the other hand did cause many to go without power until they ponied up to the new higher price. I'm not necessarily a huge fan of the EPA but where has deregulation taken us with airlines, electricity, communications costs?

Who's got any info on how much farm dust there is for the EPA to control anyway? In the northeast they already keep a close eye on manure, although not close enough for many. MikeD74T

Is your power price structure regulated by a state Public Utilities Commission or free market 'whatever the market will bear' power company ? Or you just a power hungry consumer ? MikeD74T

Didn't ask if they are profit/nonprofit, asked if they are price regulated. Non-profit organizations are limited in how they spend the money not in how they get it. If you're getting power 'at cost' then you're using a lot of power. Mike

Since most of the population of this country is in urban areas, I don't see the need to regulate a substance (dust) that will only impact a relatively few people who actually live , work and drive in the rural areas. Besides that, the dust (if any) is only kicked up during harvest and planting seasons. Seems like an intrusion to a way of life that does not need to be intruded upon. jmho:thumbsup:
