Ahh come on - There is hardly any difference between water and diesel.

I use a 5 gallon diesel can and a tube to siphon it. That way I just set the can on the hood, stick in a tube, one quick suck to prime and it drains most of the can. Lot's of peeps don't like to start a siphon, but I learned young and haven't gotten a taste of gas or diesel in decades.
Having written that I expect a mouthful next time.

I had a good smart allic idea right up until I read "cheapest".

The best idea I've seen yet consisted of a small fuel tank on a stand and a pump. I'm toying with the idea of building a small portable refueling station (25-50 gallons) which can be put into the back of the pickup to take to the station and refill. The rest of the time it would have a home in the shop where it can refuel the tractor easily. Not sure yet whether to use a 12 volt or 110 volt pump. Both have advantages and disadvantages.
This is a 12 volt pump powered from a 110 volt outlet but can be powered by car truck or tractor .
This set up combines the best of both worlds.

Solution? Most people can't get 50 gallon drum to the station and back, weight about 400lbs ,when filled?

First system I built

Solution?

My present set up I built.

Not a problem with either of these systems because there is no llifting moving or handling of a drum of fuel .

Anybody come across a nice handpump? - Seems like it couldn't need turned too much for 8 or 10 gallons and would take a lot of the complexity out of the system.

Some manual bilge pumps, like the Bosworth 400H (about $50 from Hamilton Marine) are impervious to most fuels, including diesel. The company does not encourage their use for fuel transfer, of course, but that's what guys do. The base mounts to a board, so a fixed station would be the ticket. I'd probably cut a hole in the can cap to stabilize that section of hose but I don't use the machine enough to justify the toy. (Hmmm.)

Here's one. There are other models.

Gravity flow ... the 300 gallon tank on a stand (higher than the tractor) and the local fuel company delivers ....
