Just a side note.... I never have been able to see the logic in putting a violent criminal in prison and then letting them spend endless hours pumping iron in the gym...If I had my way there would be no weights or excercise equipment in Prisons and prisoners who excercised other than walking would be punished...What,? we want to make them stronger ? How smart is that ?

Which generation do we blame for the current state of affairs?

IMO, trying to blame a "generation" is throwing the baby out with the bath water...
as a "boomer" I (and I'm sure many others) still hold the same values of our parents...I think the real blame falls on liberalism...far too many college instructors/professors instill far too liberal values into their (highly gullible) students which is responsible for the decline of the over-all (moral and social) values of the population...

What do you think has caused the decline?

IMO...prison should be nothing but hard labor and bread and water...no cable TV, no video games etc...prison should be so bad that nobody would ever want to do anything that would send them back...

but you know who we have to blame for cushy life inmates have today...hint...it starts with "L"

All I can go by is from my personal experience as a child. Knowing that caring, loving parents,Grandparents, teachers and Aunts and Uncles would find out, if I misbehaved, kept me out of a LOT of trouble. I also remember theoretically thinking about what would happen If I killed someone. I can remember as if it were yesterday, The Electric Chair. Now If you kill someone, a fancy lawyer may get you off on a technicality or the worst case scenario is they stay in jail and watch TV, get adult magazines, dope and play in the gym and even go to college in addition to free lifetime healthcare. All I have to say is "That ain't right" Ken Sweet

Yep. The fear of the neighbors telling your folks you were up to no good did tend to be a good deterrent. It still is, if there are parents to tell.

Prisoners in solitary do not get qym privs. They get 1 hour in a recreation yard. When they are in their cells, they do pushups, crunches, hang their torso over the edge of the bed and do reverse crunches, punch the walls, etc... anything to maintain their edge for when and if they get out or get a chance to take a shot at someone.

Im MY opinion, parents are mostly to blame for the decline
Not taking an active role in their kids life or disciplining them when they're wrong.

Growing up i was never scared of the police...i was, however scared of my parents. I knew if i meesed up bad enough, id get the strap.

single/ two working parent families also cause problems. Most single moms i know dont discipline their kids at all, and the kids show it. When people look at how great things were in the past, they forget that usually mom stayed home. She was there when you got home from school, taught you right and wrong, but if you were bad... she told dad when he got home.. we all know what happened then;)

blaming tv is easy. If a kid is raised right, it wont matter what they watch. Inside theyll know the difference between right and wrong.

blaming TV is easy because it's so obvious...it's not about knowing the difference between right and wrong...it's about what is accepted morally and socially...it (tv content) is much different than it was 30-40 years ago...before it became so liberal there was little if any illicit content portrayed on tellivision that was socially or morally accepted the way it is today...

Guys...we're not in a decline. The world has changed. We face much stiffer competition today than we did thirty years ago.

And the pie isn't static. It's growing...we just need to adapt and work together to get our piece of it.

Slash Pine: i see where your coming from, however the fault lies in the parents. Its the parents (and to a slightly lesser level) schools responsibility.

Parents have to raise their kids. Many parents dont want to deal with it, so they plunk little johnny down in front of the tv for hours on end. In that sense it is tv thats the problem... but it really isnt. The blame lies squarely on the parents. Its their job to teach right and wrong.. not the tv.

This isnt a "liberal" thing, its a responsibility thing. For the record, i was raised and consider myself today a conservative. Im also doing my best to instill the values in my kids, that my parents thankfully gave to me.
