Worst Job EVER For My Tractor...

I've had to bury a few over the years. I always get another or two or ? They are all different. You won't ever find a replacement, but you will get to know that each day with your Friend was a memorable one. Smile about their joy and laugh about their mischief. I didn't cry when my parents died, only when my dogs have passed away. Your next dog will be a new chapter in your life.

Now look at my pack ! All rescues, all with different attitudes and wants.

Does anyone know if it is better to shield the other dogs from the burial site at the time of internment or to allow the other dogs to be around when your friend is inserted and covered over. I ask this because I lost one friend two years ago and I shielded the other, but the other dog for weeks kept looking for him (buried 150 yards away). I ask this because this dog is getting up in age and I am thankful for each day I have with him and I'm not sure if I should let the young one near when the time comes.

I've been blessed with being owned by two of the sweetest dogs on the face of the earth..they are my children...my babies. I can't even contemplate their future passing without tearing up and I dread what it will be like when it finally happens. All I can offer is my heartfelt sympathy. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Deano,

Sorry for your loss....seems we sometimes take for granted the extra bit of life that these animals bring to us every day till we lose them.....

This post makes me appreciate mine even more today as one day I'll do the same for them with my tractor:(

Let the remaining dog see and sniff the body and if possible see the interment of the other dog. They will know the dog is gone and where and will be more likely to move on in life. Our Vet had a dog that almost starved itself to death until she took it to the grave site. After that he ate again and returned to normal living.

Wow. My dog would not eat unless I stood there with him until he was done, and he cried and whimpered for weeks. I have to say that for over a year he was very dependent on me. Thank you for your input.

Sorry for your loss - Someone told me something when my Grandfather passed that took a while to sink in but did make me feel better the more I thought about it - "Better to have lived and died than to never have been born - Celebrate the life!"

Nonetheless it still stinks so sorry.

I'm so sorry to hear about your pup, no matter how old they are they are still like your pup, I lost my German Short Haired Pointer of 13 years and 8 months and I still miss her, she was my BFF (best friend forever). Still brings a tear to my eye but the thoughts of her being part of our family for so long and all the great times and I took lots of video so I can really enjoy the memories. Good hunter, best friend.

My golden of 13.5 years is staring at me as I type this; just diagnosed with a mass in her chest. We don't know if it's cancer or benign but fear the worst. She is like another child to us. I try not to think about that fateful day, but soon enough I'll being doing the same with my tractor. Sorry for your loss, Deano.
